The present study represents an attempt to explore the developmental trend in relation to the differentiation of sociometric choices on 3 criteria, best friend (F), lunch companion on an excursion (L), and sports companion (S). Ss were 614 pupils (309 boys and 305 girls) from grades 2 through 8. Analysis was made in terms of differentiation scores obtained among these criteria.
Main findings were as follows:(1) Differentiation scores obtained between F and L, as well as those between F and S, increased significantly up to grade 6, indicating the differentiation of choices given.(2) There was a tendency for differences found between the two kinds of differentiation scores mentioned above to increase among upper-graders.

Two types of models are proposed for the analysis of the measurement in nominal scale; the deterministic model and the variability model. The latter is subdivided into three types, S-P variability model (Thurstone model) where the variability is assumed between stimulus (S) and intervening psychological (P) variables, P-variability model where variability is assumed concerning P-variables and S-P: P variability model which is a combination of the former two models.
Some of the variabilities can be conceived as reliability or discriminability of the methods used. Some of the possible biases which may result from the variabilities have been analysed.

For the purpose of examining developmentally the process of memorization and retention, the experiments were designed with 968 subjects aged 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17 years, by methods of complete memorization and free recall method, in which 7 nonsense syllables were used as the materials. The results obtained were that (1) the development of memorization is expressed by the curve of convex type, and (2) in the immediate recall after memorization, pupils of 17 years old are most superior, but in the long retention, pupils under 11 years old excel pupils of over that, accordingly, (3) the order of the development of memorization is out of accord with that of retention, and from that we can point out that there are certain qualitative differences between the memory of pupils under 11 years old and that of pupils over 13 years old.

A mathematical model of motor learning, especially of pursuit-rotor learning, was constructed on the basis of the traditional learning theory and the automatic control theory. Equations derived from the model were tested against various empirical data obtained by several researchers concerning such problems as distribution of practice, reminiscence, and learning in post-rest trials. Furthermore, two types of control system in living organisms, homeostatic and non-homeostatic systems, were distinguished and it was discussed that the model presented in this paper was non-homeostatic.

Two types of cue-criterion relationships were differentiated. They were the probabilistic structure in which the cue hits the criterion value at a given percentage and the covarying structure in which the cue values have significant regression upon the criterion value. These two structures were compared with regard to the detectability of cues in a task of detecting and utilizing the relevant cue, the payoff for correct utilization being controled. Ss were female college students. The probabilistic cue was clearly easier to detect, and the covarying cue was practically unrecognizable when the effect of higher percentage of hit was partialed out. Some of possible limitations, hypotheses and implications were discussed.
