    In the evaluation of digital print image quality, there are various quality characteristics such as color reproduction, whiteness, surface luster, etc. These picture components fluctuate under the variation of usage and environmental conditions in the market. Therefore, it is necessary to consider those variations in the evaluation of a printing system. Although the evaluation of each picture component has been studied, the evaluation of overall picture quality depends on the sensory type judgment by experts. Since there is variability between experts and variability between repetitions, a good evaluation method has not been established. In this study, the attempt was made to establish a quantitative evaluating method using MTS. The study was focused on the following two points: (1)Establish a quantitative evaluation method on picture quality after preservation: the results have a good correspondence with the result evaluated from MTS. (2)Establish a quantitative evaluation method on "color tint" and "resolution(loss of definition)", which are important for the image stability of inkjet prints.

    There has been an increasing trend of using the double-lift door glass regulating system for high end cars to expect a better regulating function. Parameter design was conducted to optimize the regulating system and improve the robustness of the system in the market. Besides using the traditional dynamic S/N ratio approach, standard S/N ratio was used for two-step optimization for comparison of the two approaches. It was confirmed as shown in this example that there was little difference on the results between the two cases when the linear term is significant.

    An electrophotographic photoreceptor is the engine of a copier, When designing this electrophotographic photoreceptor we paid attention to the digital image,and considered the proportional properties of the light absorption to dot area ratio. As a result, we found control factors to optimize the functionality of the photoreceptor, and to improve the sharpness and the resolution of the image output.

    Diagnosis of a patient's "sho" is important in kampo medicine. Treating a patient's "sho" as a type of pattern, we made trial use of the MT system as a method of pattern recognition to diagnose the group of patients fbond to be in the "oketsu" state. For accuracy of "oketsu" diagnosis, it is important to examine the S/N ratio of the MMTA method, and a multi-tiered MT system has been suggested as a method for improving accuracy, so we performed an S/N analysis of both the single-tiered and three-tiered MMTA methods and compared their diagnostic accuracy, As a result, a higher S/N gain was obtained from the threetiered S/N ratio. We think this study can contribute to improved accuracy in kampo medical diagnosis.

    The judgment of a switch performance based on its working force has been traditionally made by the feeling in a sensory test. This paper reports the possibility of making judgment by the use of MTS method. The automation of switch quality inspection to substitute sensory tests has been considered to be difficult. When product quality is clearly distinguishable, automation is easy. But some quality items such as unevenness or roughness must rely on sensory tests. The performance varies depending on the proficiency, or the physical condition of inspectors. It is especially so when the speed of inspection is increased. In the study using MTS method, two groups of characteristics were selected based on the operating reaction of a switch: "difference and limit values" is one type and "the slope of operating force" is another. From each group of characteristics,Mahalanobis distance was calculated for the improvement of evaluation. Mahalanobis distance varies depending on the different ways of selecting the characteristics. However, its quality can be evaluated by the proportional relationship of the abnormality of a product using dynamic S/N ratio. From the study, it was found that there was a difference on the tendency of individual evaluation. But from the different curves on the working force of switches, a new way was found to discriminate the abnormal switch products that were unable to be detected by sensory test.

    When using the MTS method, we need tocal culate the inverse matrix in the course of calculating Mahalanobis distance. In such a case, we cannot avoid the problem of multi-colinearity. That is, if multi-colinearity exists, the rank of the matrix becomes lower and the inverse matrix cannot be calculated. To avoid this problem, some methods such as calculating the inverse matrix using a cofactor are proposed. Because the variable is not required for discriminating,the rank of a matrix might also become lower. We, therefore, discussed the problem of a matrix whose rank becomes lower when taking into account such multi-colinearity and unnecessary variables in the data.

    Road heating is a technology that closely relates to the life of the people in the cold region. Since the study has to deal with natural phenomenon, no effective method has been established for the evaluation of the system. In this paper,dynamic characteristic was used to study the heat element control methods and paving materials using a simulator. The case using the total heat supplying quantity and the case using heating time as the signal were studied. As the generic function, it is appropriate to use heating time as the signal rather than using the total heat supplying quantity. Because the response to heat and the quantity of thaw water vary due to environmental conditions; therefore it is necessary to research on such responses in order to use the total heat supplying quantity as the signal. A road heating simulator was used for a natural phenomenon and evaluation was made using dynamic characteristic. As a result,various kinds of information regarding the effectiveness of parameters on snow melting and their relationships were obtained.

    There are two methods of spraying agricultural chemicals in the orchard fields:hand spraying and the use of speed sprayers. The latter is generally used in large scale orchard fields. Speed sprayers are specially designed cars equipped with axial blowers, power sprayers, chemical tanks and spraying nozzles. The mist of chemicals delivered from the power sprayers and nozzles is carried by a large amount of air from axial blowers and the chemicals are sprayed when the car runs in the field so that the whole area is filled with fungicides and pesticides. Sometimes the height of trees exceeds 5 meters, so it is important that the chemicals reach all leaves. It is therefore considered ideal that the chemicals reach a long distance without being affected by natural wind. In this study,quality engineering was used using an Ll8 to assign the elements in the axial blower as control factors. The blower inlet air speed was used as the input signal and the outlet air speed as the output. Two levels of natural wind were assigned as the noise factor and dynamic characteristic, these were used for S/N ratio calculation. Computer simulation was used in the analysis. The gain calculated under the optimum condition was well reproduced. An actual machine was produced for confirmation and its reproducibility was also confirmed.
