    Since the JSQC Research WGs "Simulation and SQC" were organized in 2003 under the leader-ship by late Mr. Akira Takahashi, the four WGs have been making systematic research activities to clarify the new statistical methodology and management activities for the technology development by utilizing CAE. This report introduces the general idea and needs underlying the activities to develop new statistical methodology based on numerical experiments with particular reference to the verification and validation concepts. The report also proposes a sketch of the new grammar of science for societies with four stages as value selection from society, translation from the society to an engineering model, optimization at the engineering model and value injection into the society.

    This article is an outcome of a working group 1 (WG 1) of a research group of JSQC, which of the title is "Simulation and SQC". The main mission of the WG1 is to indicate some serious issues in CAE working and propose how to cope with them by using DOE. This article presents some outcomes as follows : 1) DOE for calibration and its application, 2) screening of the design parameters, 3) model building for robust optimization.

    Computer simulation plays an important role in modern technology development. In particular, it is used for exploring new methodology, examining developed technologies and so forth. Design of experiments can benefit from computer simulation because it is a series of techniques for performing experiments efficiently and the above-mentioned exploration and examination requires experimental results of simulation. This paper discusses the application of design of experiments to computer simulation as a grammar of design of experiments in computer simulation that is helpful for technology development. Specifically, the grammar described in this paper includes techniques for validating a tentative model of response and factors, screening many factors to identify active factors and approximating the response function by active factors. Traditional approaches to design of experiments are partially useful for these areas. However, some of them cannot be solved by the traditional approaches because of the complexity resulting from computer simulation. Therefore, this paper also adopts a new approach to solve these problems.

    This paper formulates factor assignment problem on supersaturated designs with considering all permutations of columns. This paper also gives an approximate algorithm that selects columns' as little correlation as possible. The algorithm is based on a random choice in order to prevent combinatorial explosion. As an example of application, the results for screening factors by supersaturated designs before and after the column permutation are compared in a simulation study, and the necessity of the permutation is also discussed.

    The authors have proposed the "New Japan Development Design Model". In an effort to verify its validity, the authors have created the high quality assurance CAE model "Total Intelligence CAE Management Model" by utilizing "Technical Elements of Highly Reliable CAE Model". Furthermore, as an extended application of these, the authors have established "Total Intelligence CAE Management System Approach Model". The authors have analyzed an issue of worldwide concern for an automotive transaxle, the oil seal leakage mechanism, and have recognized "CG Navigation and Intelligence CAE Software : Advanced Design-Oil Leakage Simulator" as appropriate development design model and achieved some results. Similarly, the authors developed "Urethane Foam Modeling Simulator" and "Bolt Tightening Simulator", and are getting a given result now.

    In this paper, consideration is given to the validity of "statistical science" which is necessary for innovation of the development designing process for a new issue involving numerical simulation technology (CAE) in development designing : that is designed for the transition from "prototype/experimental based real machine evaluation method" to the "prediction evaluation method based on highly reliable CAE analysis." More specifically, concrete examples of "SQC study cases that contributed to CAE analysis" from automotive manufacturers are examined from the standpoint of "transverse characteristics of statistical science and contribution to design science" so as to propose the "highly reliable CAE analysis system approach method" that contributes to the process innovation of development designing.

    The authors have investigated the technical elements that realize high quality assurance CAE models, expected to boost the automobile development design process. We have abstracted the five technical elements (problem setting, modeling, algorithm, computer science, and theory) by studying the wide variety of CAE development projects. And we realized that the success of CAE models results from the "synergy" of appropriate combination of the technical elements. And we emphasize the importance of the feedback-loop process to elaborate the element itself and their combination, based upon deep technical insights resulting from lively discussion of technical specialists. We define the process is essential for the "Intellectualization" and "Accuracy Improvement" of CAE.

    It is a contemporary technical subject of a company to realize "super-short-term development design-QCD simultaneous achievement" towards the high quality production. In order to embody, the authors think that the process reform to the "prediction evaluation type in high reliability CAE analysis" from "actual thing check/improvement type by the trial production and experiment" is required. For the realization, the authors think that the process reform to the "prediction evaluation type" in highly reliable CAE analysis from the "actual thing check/improvement type" by the experiment is required. Specifically, an automobile development design evolves greatly by establishment of "absolute value evaluation" by CAE, and exact "prediction/control technical method". So, the authors present a concrete enforcement policy from the positive result of research.

    In Japan, long-term care insurance system started in April 2000. In this insurance system, care for elderly people is provided according to care plans that are designed by care managers. It is essential to establish a methodology for determining care plans in order to ensure the "quality of elderly care". To achieve this, it is necessary to establish appropriate processes to determine care plans according to the state of an elderly person. In this paper, we first determined to separate the processes for determining elderly care plans for the "processes for determining elderly care according to the person's state" and the "processes for designing plans for providing care services" based on surveys on literatures and the practices performed in providing elderly care. Then we focused on ADL and studied the requirements for the "processes for determining elderly care according to the person's state", and determined factors to be considered in these processes and methods to concretely study these factors. Further, we designed a "process model for determining elderly care on ADL", which consists of both a detailed procedure and database structure required for the procedure. This model enables to appropriately implement the processes for determining elderly care on ADL. We also made a verification to assess the validity of the model.

    On Type I Distance of the MT System under the Condition that the Number of the Items is Larger than or Equal to n-1 Yasushi NAGATA/Go HISATOMI Under the condition that there are several linear restrictions (the condition 1) or that the sample size n is smaller than or equal to the number p of the items (the condition 2), the Mahalanobis distance cannot be calculated. In this situation it is called that there exists multicollinearity. Miyakawa and Nagata (Journal of Japanese Society Quality Control, Vol.33) derived two types of distances and recommended using them as a countermeasure against multicollinearity. This paper mathematically shows that the values of the type I distance are the same for the original data of the normal space when p≧n. As a result, the critical value cannot be determined based on the sampling distribution of the type I distance. It is essentially difficult to cope with the condition 2 in compared with the condition 1. Under the condition 2 some information has to be thrown away. This paper suggests the possibility of the methods. Furthermore, this paper also shows that the values of the Mahalanobis distance are the same for p=n-1 although there does not exist multicollinearity.

    In recent years, the organizational accidents influenced product quality issues have become significant. This paper focuses on automobile industry in Japan and analyzes factors of quality accidents by using public information through viewpoint of quality management. The data used in this paper are recall data in Japanese automobile industry which were reported to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Japan (MLIT). First, this paper analyzes functions of parts of automobile based on data of MLIT and grasps characteristics of quality accidents. This paper also analyzes articles describing specific accidents in MLIT's data according to text-mining method and extracts keywords concerning particular parts of automobile and primary factors of accidents. And this paper analyzes annual changes of primary factors of accidents. Second, this paper analyzes influence of quality accidents by applying risk management method and draws out the annual changes. As a result, the turning point of year for critical accidents is found. Based on the above results, differences and similarities among Japanese automobile companies are shown. In conclusion, this paper proposes to apply the above methods to analyze the following items ; to grasp strength and weakness of automobile manufactures and their competitors, to grasp characteristics of accidents, and to find fundamental factors of accidents and critical factors of quality management.
