Neutron activation analysis of selenium using 75Se
has been investigated by means of a coincidence counting of γ-rays in the cascade decay series by a NaI (Tl)
detector and a Ge (Li)
detector. Using this method, the background around the photopeak of 75Se-
265 keV could be reduced to one twentieth, and thus the detection limit of selenium could be improved four times higher than the usual method. For examining the accuracy of this measuring method, selenium contained in Bovine Liver (NBS) was determind and the content of selenium was found to be 1.02μg/g (the certified value is 1.1±0.1μg/g) . Selenium content in Orchard Leaves (NBS) was determind to be 0.081±0.006, ccg/g (the certified value is 0.08±0.01μg/g), though its nondestructive determination was difficult because of its very low content. The results obtained here indicate that the accuracy, the precision and the reproducibility for selenium determintion are thought to be adequate. As an example of a sample containing many interference nuclides, selenium in a soot was determined on the basis of these results.

The Effect of orally given allopurinol on the distribution of intravenously administered 14C-
hypoxanthine radioactivity was studied in squirrel monkeys 8 hr after administration of the label by the whole body autoradiography. Although the distribution of radioactivity in the normal and allopurinol-treated animals was essentially similar to each other, more intense radioactivity was noted in the latter monkey; salvage of 14C-
hypoxanthine was enhanced. Similarly to our previous observation in mice, significant radioactivity in monkeys was seen in tissues undergoing rapid nucleic acid synthesis except for slight species differences in some organs. 14C-
Allantoin alone was the urinary metabolite of the hypoxanthine in the normal monkey whereas significant amounts of 14C-
hypoxanthine and 14C-
xanthine as well were detected in the urine of the drug-treated animal.

Lymphocytes blasttansformation method by a small amount of whole blood cultivation with 125I-
UdR was studied.1) It is suitable to take for 4 or 5 days as culture days.2) It is suitable to add PHA-P in the concentration of 7.5 μg per ml of medium.3) Addition of fetal calf serum in medium is not required.4) The mean value of SI was 35.62 for the healthy persons, 31.23 for the patients of lung tuberculosis and 16.31 for the patients of lung cancer. The difference of SI betweenrthe healthy persons and the lung cancer was significant statistically.

We purified human prostatic acid phosphatase (hPAP) from prostatic tissues by affinity chromatography, DEAF cellulose and gel filtration and also examined physicochemical properties of highly purified PAP. We developed a double-antibody radioimmunoassay for hPAP in serum, with use of antiserum raised in rabbit against highly purified PAP. The antiserum did not cross react with acid phosphatase from platelets and red blood cells. Experimental detail are outlined to assess the reproducibility and reliability of the method under various conditions. The upper limit of the serum PAP levels in the present assay was set at 3.0 ng/ml by 162 determinations of samples. The serum PAP levels of 2 untreated patients with prostatic carcinoma were higher than 3.0 ng/ml and 39 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia were an average value of 1.9 ng/ml.
