The sublimatographic separation of volatile β-diketonate complexes of fission products produced directly by the recoil atoms of fission products under exposure of a mixture of nonvolatile M (β-
diketone)
n and U-3 (
JAERI)
on neutron, was carried out. When Ba (
acac)
2 and K (
acac)
were used as catcher chelates, both samples did not deposited radioactive chelates and inactive chelates in the inner glass tube. But the volatile Zr (
acac)
4 chelates were mixed with the sample of Ba (
acac)
2+
U-3 after irradiation, the radioactive chelates deposited together with the inactive chelates of Zr (
acac)
4 at the same position in the inner glass tube. The nuclides in the deposited zones were mainly 97Zr-
97Nb,
91mY,
92Y
and 93Y.
On the other hand, in the case of Y (
dpm)
3 chelates mixed, the nuclides in the deposited zones of the radioactive and inactive chelates were
91mY,
92Y,
93Y,
97Zr-
97Nb
141Ce
and 143Ce.
When the volatile Zr (
acac)
4 chelates were mixed with the sample of Ba (
acac)
2+
U-3 after irradiation, the yield of deposited 97Zr nuclide was directly proportional to the amount of Zr- (
acac)
4 up to about 5 times against the amount of the irradiated sample.

203Hg,
35S
or 131I
labeled mercury (II) iodide thiocyanate (HgISCN)
powders were prepared, respectively. When the powders were exposed to sunlight, some parts of the crystals of the powders were decomposed and the decomposed atoms diffused toward crystal surface. This diffusion velocity was accelerated by thermal treatment of the darkened powders. The velocity is larger in order of 35S,
203Hg,
131I.
Decomposed products consist of colloidal mercury, mercury iodide, mercury sulfide, sulfur dioxide and iodine. Mechanism of photochromism of HgISCN
was discussed.

Fluorine-18-2-deoxy-2 fluoro-D-glucose (
18FDG)
for medical use had been prepared with the attention regarding radiochemical yield and purity, specific activity and quality control.More than four 18F-
by-products in 18F-
adducts from the reaction of triacetyl glucal with 18F
2 were detected by the autoradiography of thin layer plates in which two by-products could not be perfectly removed by a column chromatography, and selective collection of the eluate gave 18FDG
with the purity of 96.7% as an average in 12 runs. At end of synthesis (EOS) 259-925 MBq (7-25 mCi) of a sterilized, isotonic solution of 18FDG
was obtained with the specific activity of 629-851 MBq (17-23 mCi) /mg at end of bombardment (EOB) after preparation time of 3-3.5 hr, in which bacteria and pyrogen were not detected.

In order to investigate both the contamination level and distribution of radioactive nuclides in the marine environment, the concentrations of both 60Co
and stable cobalt were determined. The samples collected from the sea around Japan were fishes, squids. The analytical method for 60Co
was consisted of the radiochemical separation using ion exchange resins followed with the low background beta counting, and that for stable cobalt was the spectrophotometric determination. The results obtained were as follows: (1) The viscera of squids was found to enrich both 60Co
and stable cobalt. (2) No 60Co
was detected in fishes except the liver of bonito taken from the north west Pacific. (3) The correlation between 60Co
and stable cobalt was rather good in the squids samples. (4) The enrichment factors for squids and fishes agreed well with the values reported by B. Patel or S.E. Tompson.

The concentration of 60Co
and stable cobalt in the shellfishes and seaweeds which were collected from the coast around Japan were obtained by low background beta counting for 60Co
and spectrometric determination of stable cobalt. The results obtained were as follows: (1) The 60Co
was found in the shellfishes which were enriched in the stable cobalt. (2) The correlation between 60Co
and stable cobalt was rather good in the shellfishes. (3) The activities of 60Co
was found in the seaweeds taken from seashore near the nuclear power plant. (4) There was great differences in the specific activities between samples collected from contaminated and not contaminated area.
