99mTc-
GSA is a new liver-imaging radiopharmaceutical which binds to the asialoglycoprotein receptors on the hepatocytes. We evaluated liver injury induced by fatty infiltration in the rats. Studies were performed in the Wistar rats under control conditions (
6 cases)
, and with choline deficiency diet for 2, 4, 6, 10 and 12weeks (
6 cases respectively).
99mTc-
GSA was administered via the inferior vena cava. Immediately after injection, a dynamic imaging study was performed for 30 mini t90 (
the time at which the liver time-activity curve reached 90% of its peak)
, Ku and Kd (
calculated by 2 compartment model)
were used as parameters which reflect on asialoglycoprotein receptors on the hepatocytes. t90 prolonged, and Ku and Kd decreased according to the severity of fatty infiltration. These results suggest that 99mTc-
GSA is useful for evaluating liver injury induced by fatty infiltration.

In a liquid radiochromatography analysis, a continuous monitoring system for radioactive effluent has been developed, which uses a combination of a paraffin scintillator and a thin solid support tape. In sample preparation, the effluent obtained from a chromatography column is immediately solidified on a glass fiber support by adding small amount of a liquid-solid reversible paraffin scintillator. This technique overcomes many disadvantages of a flow-cell type monitor ever employed, and allows the samples to be measured repeatedly and stored. For activity measurements of the prepared samples, a scintillation continuous-counter has been constructed and its operation characteristics have been tested.

This paper describes an actual application of two-dimensional dose distribution reconstruction by the bootstrap method using restricted data. The analysis was done by using only 18 measurements on the 30×60 grid in the area around the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The results give us fundamental knowledge about the actual application of the bootstrap method for the two-dimensional reconstruction. A one-dimensional simulation was also used to compare the properties of three techniques: Student's t distribution method, the usual bootstrap method, and a modified bootstrap method with weighting functions. This comparison gave us knowledge about the interval estimation, about the improved method with weighting factors, and about the reliability of the methods. The advantage of the bootstrap methods is clear when the number of data is small.

Total amount of 3H
activity in primary coolant due to the operation of Tsuruga Power Station Unit No. 2 was estimated.
The 3H
inventory was measured for samples from the spent fuel pool, primary coolant and miscellaneous tanks.
From the result of the measurement and the data of environmental release of 3H,
the rate of generation of 3H
in the reactor was found to be 25 TBq/GWa.
Since Tsuruga Power Station Unit No.2 is a PWR type reactor, we presume that most of the 3H
in primary coolant is formed by 10B (
n, 2α) 3H
reaction.
It is necessary to release about 23 TBq/GWa of 3H
to maintain the station inventory at the present level.

The in vitro adsorption on hydroxyapatite (HAP) of 99mTc-
hydroxymethylene diphosphonate (
99mTc-
HMDP) and 99mTc-
methylene diphosphonate (
99mTc-
MDP), which are used as bone imaging agents, was studied. The adsorption of both diphosphonates was carried out in the concentration of 1.2×10-5 and 4.7×10-5 mol/dm3.
Radioactivities of the filtrate and precipitate taken from the adsorptive solution were measured, and the filtrate was analyzed with radio-thinlayer chromatography. The 99mTc
compounds forming polymers, as previously reported, were remained partially on the precipitate paper at the initial stage of adsorption. The amount of 99mTc-
HMDP and MDP adsorbed for 1 h was 84% and 77%, respectively, the former adsorbed on HAP to a greater degree than did the latter. The compounds adsorbed on HAP are in a state of adsorption equilibrium with those in the solutions even after adsorbing for 3 h, and seem to be stable.
