    Bird strikes, that is, collisions between aircraft and birds, are critical events that can severely damage aircraft. Although fundamental studies on bird strikes have typically used gelatin projectiles, birds differ in terms of volume and density due to their species and individual differences. Accordingly, in this study, impact simulations on a cantilevered aluminum alloy plate and a carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) plate designed to mimic a fan blade were conducted. Cylindrical gelatin projectiles of various diameters and investigated how the different diameters of these gelatin projectiles affect the deformation of the aluminum alloy plate and the delamination of the CFRP plate were used. In addition, the deformation of the aluminum alloy plate and the damage behavior of the CFRP plate upon impact with a cylindrical soft body were examined. Finally, the evaluation method for assessing damage on the CFRP plate was examined.

    Sublimation pressure curve of argon was estimated by constant temperature and constant pressure molecular dynamics. The basic cell was cubic, where the FCC lattice was assumed at the initial stage. The number of molecules in the basic cell was 2916. The Lennard-Jones potential function was assumed. The density and potential energy were obtained as functions of temperature and pressure. The estimated sublimation pressure curve was reasonable compared with experimental data.

    The author is conducting the Project “Computational Science and Scientific Visualization Research Collaboration”. In one of its research topics, the author is carrying out a quantum chemical study for understanding the mechanism of alkali-metal-ion complexation of mushroom pigments. This article focuses on one of the famous mushroom pigments called “chalcitrin” and reports the structures of its alkali-metal-ion complexes of this compound as well as their energetics.

    Triple point and critical point of argon were estimated by Nose constant temperature molecular dynamics. The slab model was assumed. The basic cell was tetragonal, where the central layer was FCC lattice at the initial stage. The number of molecules in the basic cell was 52488. The Lennard-Jones potential function was assumed. The pressure and potential energy were obtained as functions of temperature. The triple point was assigned by atomic configuration, potential energy and pressure. The critical point was assigned by the maximum point of fluctuation of the potential energy vs temperature plot. The estimated triple point temperature and pressure were reasonable compared with experimental data. The obtained critical temperature and pressure were reasonable compared with experimental data.

    This report introduces the overview and outcomes of an online research exchange meeting jointly conducted by Hosei University’s Teaching Method of Chinese (3) & (4) and Takushoku University’s Third-Year Seminar (Modern Chinese Studies). Hosei University’s Teaching Method of Chinese (3) & (4) are courses focused on learning Chinese teaching methods, while Takushoku University’s Third-Year Seminar (Modern Chinese Studies) is a course dedicated to research on Chinese vocabulary and grammar. Leveraging the connection between these two courses, online research exchange meetings were held in the 2021 and 2024 academic years. In the online research exchange meetings, students conducted practical trial lessons and research presentations. While the online research exchange meeting received generally positive feedback from students, several issues were also identified. Moving forward, we aim to address these challenges and explore more effective approaches to online research exchange meetings.

    Triple point and critical point of KCl were estimated by constant energy molecular dynamics. The basic cell was cubic, where the central part was lattice of NaCl structure at the initial stage. The number of atoms in the basic cell was 8000. The Born Mayer Huggins - type potential function was assumed. The pressure and potential energy were obtained as functions of temperature. The triple point was assigned by atomic configuration, potential energy and pressure. The estimated triple point temperature and pressure were reasonable compared with experimental data at melting point. The critical point temperature was estimated by the minimum point of T/T0 vsT0 plot, where T0 was the initial temperature andT was equilibrium temperature. The estimated critical point temperature was reasonable compared with reported data.

    In this study, the transonic flows in the linear turbine cascade with the blade profile for high pressure turbine rotors were analyzed numerically by using the commercial CFD code with the assumption of steady compressible turbulent flow. The effects of the development of shock wave caused by the increase of exit Mach number on the tip leakage flow behavior were examined. The isentropic exit Mach number was varied from the subsonic to the supersonic conditions as an outlet boundary condition. The computed results clarified that the trajectory of tip leakage vortex was deflected in the spanwise direction toward the casing wall by the suction side shock wave at the trailing edge. Moreover, the increase of the obliqueness of the shock wave reduced the deflection.

    The author has been conducting a “Hosei University RCCMS (Research Center for Computing and Multimedia Studies) Research Project”, entitled “Numerical Computation and Deep Learning Libraries Development on lab2022 Computers”. During the year 2024-2025, the author has tried to build an environment for artificial intelligence (AI) computations. In this article, the author focuses on one of the most popular machine learning frameworks, PyTorch, and introduces the reader to this powerful tool.

    This technical note provides a brief guideline for beginners to learn quantum chemical calculation using Gaussian package in the Laboratory system of Hosei university. We introduce how to construct useful set-up for end-users, to avoid toughness to calculate in Linux based system for chemistry students due to the command line interface (CLI). Furthermore, we demonstrate some quantum chemical calculations examples informative for experimental researchers, such as isotope effect and magnetically induced current calculations.

    The authors report on the results of a survey on the rules for handling educational data collected at public and private elementary and secondary schools by academic and research institutions. In elementary and secondary education, “data-driven education” is being promoted, in which educational data is collected from information terminals owned by each student and utilized for individualized and optimal education. Ideally, elementary and secondary schools should be able to collect and analyze educational data on their own, but it is also possible to envision situations where educational data is provided to academic research institutes, etc. and analyzed jointly or outsourced. In such cases, schools are subject to legal restrictions when they provide educational data to academic research institutions, and academic research institutions are subject to legal restrictions when they use the data for academic research purposes. The restrictions imposed on academic research institutions are different from those imposed on the private sector, and the regulations are complex. The results of this study show that the restrictions are less stringent when using personal information for academic research purposes than when using personal information for ordinary purposes. On the other hand, there is a need to establish a voluntary code for the appropriate implementation of research using personal information.

    Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, universities have rapidly adopted online classes. Since 2021, the author has been continuously conducting High-Flex classes, which combine face-to-face and online formats. This paper reports on the specific implementation methods of the High-Flex class, its advantages and challenges, the evaluation methods used for students, and the results of a student questionnaire survey. The survey revealed a polarization among students, with a clear preference for either on-demand or face-to-face classes, and indicated a strong demand for the continuation of the High-Flex format.

    This study explores the identification of rapids and pools—key habitat features in river environments— using ground-based point cloud data of riverbed topography. Elevation values and local bed slope were employed as indicators to characterize these habitats. Results indicated that rapids exhibited gentle slopes, while pools were associated with steeper gradients, revealing distinct topographic patterns. These findings showed strong agreement with Froude number calculations, suggesting its potential applicability as a complementary metric. Furthermore, elevation variability, quantified using the coefficient of variation, effectively captured topographic transition zones, particularly in deeper (abyssal) areas, highlighting its promise as a useful indicator for habitat delineation.

    An invited lecture with the same title was given at the Research Center for Computing and Multimedia Studies Symposium 2025 held at Hosei University on 25 February 2025. The lecture discussed the attractiveness and difficulties of developing a global career as an academic researcher for Japanese people, based on the experience of moving to Germany and research reports there. To be successful overseas, it is important that we have the profile required by the country we are moving to. In the case of research, one approach might be to identify research gaps specific to this region by using our Japanese background. By focusing on cultural differences, we can make a social contribution if we can find antitheses that local people tend to overlook as indifferent or taken for granted. Therefore, it would be better to focus first on the people who use educational media (cognifacts, e.g., teachers’ or learners’ knowledge and ways of thinking) and the situations in which educational media are used (sociofacts, e.g., compulsory education or curriculum) rather than on the specific educational media technology (artefacts) that are currently booming. As examples, the talk presented the two research projects we are currently working on to strengthen inclusive computing education in Germany, Project IINA and Project I-KASA. This short article covers the content of the talk.

    This paper reports the outcomes of an overseas research project conducted at the Jagiellonian University in Poland from April 2024 to March 2025. The research focused on an international comparative study of the ethical, legal, and social issues surrounding the societal implementation of educational and learning data utilization. Special attention was given to the institutional and cultural contexts in Poland. These were compared with those in Japan. In Poland, efforts are being made to ensure data processing and privacy protection in accordance with the GDPR. While Japan should learn from the initiatives undertaken in the EU, including Poland, it is also important to promote the utilization of educational and learning data in ways that are culturally appropriate for the Japanese context.
