This paper describes a study on the safety evaluation method of the power reed element used in safety control systems. The element itself demonstrates high reliability and safety due to its special construction whereby it exhibits a wiping and hammering action. The reliability evaluation of the element of its field failure rate level is 4.8(Fit) or 10^<-9>〜10^<-10>(1/operation), but the actual failure rate to danger for its safety evaluation has not been determined as of the date of this paper. Subsequently, the result of failure rate to danger is about 2.0×10^<-10>(1/h) from the initial field data observed. In view of these facts, switch redundancy and compatibility checking must be done within the limits of residual risk factors that the authors make a proposal.

Since it has become popular to use applications on window operating systems, such as Microsoft Windows and GNOME, we attempt to use the GUI specific testing approach. Thus, model-based testing was newly established and often used in GUI application testing, but the model-based testing method is not yet mature and has not been researched enough. In this paper, we will clarify which factors are lacking and offer solutions with case studies.

This paper considers a method of assessing software vulnerability quantitatively. First, we focus on the situation that the so-called Internet software application might be attacked by malicious users when such a software application is delivered to its operational phase. We show that it is impossible for the software developers to previously anticipate the possibility of such attack by using their knowledge and ability for software development. Then, we construct a new evaluation method of software vulnerability for such software applications like sendmail, and also analyze its actual security hole data to assess the software vulnerability.

Redundancy alllocation is an efficient method to improve reliability and many studies on optimal redundancy allocation have been presented for various structures, such as series system, bridge system and general system by many techniques. In this paper, we deal with the problem in which redundancy or alternative component (or module) can be considered at all level in series systems. A mixed integer nonlinear programming problem is proposed and a genetic algorithm is used to find the solutions.
