We have been developing the operation management system for video stream disｔribution among multi-points over an IP network. A feature of the system is the integration of statistical information and operation information with the time axis. The video and the voice quality at the reception points have been reported by web chat or e-mail as operation information. To obtain those application level qualities as statistical information both quantitatively and regularly, we developed a technique that evaluates those qualities by measuring the DIF block. The interfaces of the time range specification and the graph selection were modified for the improvement of usability.

Oblique metal island (OMI) films exhibit large optical anisotropy. Therefore, using multilayers of the OMI films, optical polarizing films with a high extinction ratio and low insertion Joss can be realized. The OMI films can be formed using a conventional vacuum evaporation system. In this work, we designed wide·band polarizing films for 350-560 nm with the extinction ratio of ≥ 20 dB and the insertion loss of ≤ 0.5 dB by changing the shape of metal islands layer by layer.

Extraction of the lung region from chest X-ray CT images is an important preprocess for computer-aided diagnosis systems. To extract the lung region, a method using the Active Cylinder Model is applied. The results demonstrate its effectiveness. However, the results include the diaphragm region. We intend to develop a method that extracts the diaphragm region. In this paper, we describe a method for extracting the diaphragm region using active contour models. This method was applied to simple lung models and cases. We present those results.

A study of liquid surface vibration control for liquid transportation systems is an important theme in conjunction with crane control and applications such as earthquake sensors. Surface control of the vibration system examined here is performed by a MATLAB computer system and the control system restrains the vibration of a surface by movement on a bowl screw. A main aim is to find an appropriate control to suppress liquid surface vibration using this system. Therefore, the system presented in this study. improves output characteristics of a capacity - electricity conversion circuit of a synchronization rectification method and report about the surface control effect that is similar to a diode rectification method. In addition, we present robust nonlinear control for a change of initial liquid-surface displacement for the liquid transportation systems.

A Direct Drive (DD) type motor that has a low-speed and high-torque specifications is suitable for the driving motor of a small electric vehicle (EV). We have developed a driving motor system for an energy-saving race EV by modifying a commercial outer rotor type brushless DC motor into a low-voltage-type one. This system has an electric regenerative energy circuit using quick-charging electric double-layer capacitors (EDLC). An energy-saving EV race called the "World EV Challenge in SUGO" is held every year in Sugo (Miyagi, Japan). We participated in the EV race to evaluate the performance of this driving motor system and examined the actual running data with simulation results calculated using an equivalent electric circuit of the EV system.

In our previous report, a multi-disk-type corona motor that consists of several multi-DVDs rotor and a dual-printed circuit board stator was proposed and applied for an ozonic water generation system. In this report, suitable lengths of discharging electrodes were examined and have been adopted. An air-gap between the stator and rotor was modified to a variable type. Consequently, then the number of DVDs was increased to more than 10 pieces. Results clarified that a corona motor with more than 8 DVDs drove the centrifugal pump used in this ozonic water generation system. Moreover, we proposed an ozone density regulator to treat higher density gaseous ozone.

Gears are very useful machine elements. Widely various gears are used to fabricate robots, research instruments, and so on. Some staff and students of the Sendai National College of Technology have worked to introduce a hobbing machine. We attempted to retrofit a CNC hobbing machine. We newly fabricated software servo w1its and a sub-computer unit using H8 microprocessors. To evaluate its performance, we also built up a gear measurement system based on CNC-3DMM. We cut some spur gears on the machine, measured their tooth profile errors, and analyzed those errors.

A running robot has a flight period during which all legs lose contact with the ground at the same time. Therefore, it requires a control system that calculates an appropriate position of the leg to regulate stability of that movement until the next touchdown. The control system presented herein is effective in maintaining balance against external disturbances. To develop such a robot system, we have been developing a one-legged hopping robot as the first step. The leg consists of electrical actuators and a spring to be installed in an autonomous robot. In this case, it is difficult for the robot even to continue hopping. For that reason, we first developed a hopping mechanism as a leg for the robot.

This study investigates how Japanese learners of English acquire elliptical constructions where the violation of the wh-island constraint can be repaired. focusing on sluicing and VP-ellipsis. More specifically, this study compares the results of the grammaticality judgment task by Japanese learners of English with those by native speakers of English, using several sentence types as stimulus sentences: e.g., relative clause islands, derived position islands, COMP-trace effects, coordinate structure constraints, complement to nouns, and adjuncts. The results show that the acquisition pattern of Japanese learners of English is basically similar to that of native speakers of English.

First-year and second-year students study in mixed classes. The students, after three years, study in four specialized courses of the Sendai National College of Technology. Naturally, the attitudes that a student of Department of Electronic Control Engineering has in such situation among mixed classes will change. After three years, the students' specialized consciousness. which is earlier unexploited, wakes to the upper school curriculum and consciousness widens and changes. In this study, we clarify the change of consciousness during the process by which the students of that department grow up. We analyze responses of students to consciousness questionnaires. Also examined is the connection between these questionnaire responses and times of experiments and lecture reports in the Department of Electronic Control Engineering. Results are compared for fifth-years and first-year students.

This paper explores the vocabulary level of fifth-year students at Sendai National College of Technology (SNCT). The Nation‘s 1000 word level test was used and student's scores were compared with those of fifth-year students of Gunma National College of Technology (GNCT). Results show that the mean score of SNCT is higher than 28 and slightly better than the mean of GNCT students' scores. However, their scores are unsatisfactory because even second-year students can achieve higher scores on the same test. We should reconsider how to train third- and fourth-year students for steady growth in English capability.

Introduction of the international credit system has improved the importance of student's self-study. To support students' self and cooperative studies. we provided a "Space for Learning" in both the real-world and net-world. This "Space for learning" offers not only learning facilities such as desks and whiteboards. but also teachers and TAs who act as facilitators. The concept of the "Space for Learning" can be expected as a model of the support environment for students' self and cooperative studies, activation of the credit transfer system. and regional work-integrated learning.

Courses combining lectures between of Miyagi National College of Technology and Sendai National College of Technology have begun. Image Processing and Engineering Mathematics of the Advanced Course were targeted. In this paper, we report the preparation and management preceding the combined lecture on Image Processing. In addition, management and lecture contents were evaluated from students' questionnaire responses. Management of the lectures was examined. This paper presents prospects for future lecture management.

The Department of Information Engineering supported a University Junior Science Project "Let's Study Lenses --Let's Make a Telescope ---" on August 19 and 20, 2006. In all, 57 pupils and 40 parents participated in this project. They studied the mechanism of the telescope and lenses; then they made a handmade telescope. Subsequently, they practiced using the telescope. This project received a favorable review from participants. We report on the preparation, the execution process, and results of the questionnaire related to this project.
