In the recent, severe and fluctuant world energy situation, research and development of COM (Coal Oil Mixture) in Japan has made great strides.
Selected merits of COM utilization are easy handling as well as oil, a contribution for development of brown coal market, and possibility of conversion from oil-fired to COM-fired power plants. This is the First Report summarized a state of the art of R & D COM as for laboratory test and pilot plant test in Japan. Afterwards, a final report as to demonstration test and other engineering studies will be given in this publication.
Principal items in this First Report include concept of the art of COM, COM preparation technology, property of COM, COM transportation, storage and combustion, demonstration schedule, and relevant activities at both the government and non-government side.
