In recent years, transcutaneous electrical current therapy has been widely used in physical therapy, and many research reports have been published on the use of electrical polarity. In acupuncture, Kugo Sasagawa (1894-1968) and Yoshio Nakatani (1923-1978) at Kyoto University in Japan in the 1940s used acupuncture as Ryodoraku Medicine based on the data of skin electrical resistance. In recent years, electroacupuncture has been widely practiced, and many research papers have been published both in Japan and abroad. However, there have been few studies focusing on the polarity of electroacupuncture, as most electroacupuncture treatments are aimed at stimulating the skin with electric current. If there is a difference in the effectiveness of percutaneous electroacupuncture depending on the polarity, there may be a difference in the effectiveness of acupuncture depending on the polarity as well. In this paper, we would like to review the characteristics of polarity based on the history of electricity and skin electrical resistance measurements, and to provide an opportunity to examine electroacupuncture treatment.
