The finite element method was used in the performance of an analysis of seepage in porous media. The method of calculation used in the finite element method requires shifting the seepage nodal points according to the artificial smoothing procedure for free water surfaces, and the discharge calculations. Because of this, the method has seldom been applied to the transient free surface flow in porous media where the external water level is rising. In order to accurately determine the normal flux at seepage point and corner singular points of porous media, dispersal and anajysis by Laplace's equation that governs the (the Neumann or Dirichlet type) continuous condition for the flux, was performed using the finite element method. This paper presents the conclusions drawn from a comparison of the results obtained by this method, and those obtained by other methods.
