In recent years, environmental conservation has become an important aspect of the execution of public works projects. Phenomena unconnected with sediment production and discharge must be clarified and accounted for at the execution stage of sabo works project.
A questionnaire survey of the State of Environmental Surveys conducted at the 12 th Sabo Conference revealed that project superintendents lack clear guidelines for future environmental surveys. Therefor, results of environmental surveys conducted at each project site not necessarily function effectively at the execution stage later project.
We have, therefor, conducted further study of the results of the questionnaire survey to define the reasons why environmental survey results are not used effectively at the execution stage of the later project.
We offer the following three improvement propositions.
1) Perform surveys including the habitats and interrelationships of living organisms.
2) Perform monitoring to study the effects of the works on the environment and feed the results back to maintenance work and new work.
3) Manage survey results as map information (habitat maps etc.)
