A large amount of the various pesticides has been added to the environment in ]apan. However, these air pollutions were not very inspected chemically. In this paper, based on the measuring data in the ricefields,fo rests and farms, the authors tried to elucidate the generating conditions and the concentration levels of air pollution. It was found that the log.normal distribution of concentration could be obtained by measunnent of more than 150 samples in one researching area. Using those statistical data, about 1μg/m3 of pesticides was estimated as an usual concentration Ievel in polluted area. Further,as ar esult of many observations, the air pollution of pesticide was confirmed to be generating by vaporization of pesticide lying on the surface of ground,le aves and water. The facts,th at the germicide placed in the soil were polluting all over a village for a year and the insecticide sprayed from helicopter on a forest were vaporzing for over a week according to temperature and wind conditions, were illustrated. It was considered that the control to pesticide pollution were the most important subject to the environmental safety
In order to investigate the state of air pollution near roadways by tra田Cof automobiles equipped with studded tires, the authors collected road dust samples,na mely fal1 dust,to tal suspended particulate,su spended particulate matter (smaller than 10μm)and deposit on the roadside,at five sites in Morioka city and analyzed for component of road dust.
The results obtained were as follows
1) Amount of road dust increased with equipping ratio of studded tires and became the maximum in early spring.
2) Airborne particulates near roadways consisted of coarse particles in winter and early spring,co mpared with otherseasons
3) Fe and Ca in airborne particulates indicatedrather high concentrations in winter and early spring. Especially,it was clearly observed in coarse particles. But Benzo (a) Pyrene,th at was ac arcinogen,w as rarely contained in thesepartic1es.
4) Contribution of sources to airborne particulates was identified by chemical element balance method. As a result,it was clear that the increment of airborne particulates concentration was mainly affected by not only abration matter of the asphalt pavement but also deposit on the roadside.
