SeveraI experiments were carried out in order to examine the effect of several variables on the test results and to compare the traditional and new test procedures,The use of aluminum cup was useful for keeping the pressure vessel clear and gave higher pressure vessel limiting diameter(PVLD)than no use of the cap.The sample size(5g or10g)and heating rate did not give significant difference to the PVLD. The PVLDs which were determined at several organizations were compared and found to be scattered considerably. In the suggested new procedure we use only two orifices l and9mmφ,and tests ten times for each oτi丘ce.This procedure was applied to the AIBN and BPO diluted withα一aluminum oxide and found to be reliable,

In・situ observations of fatigue crack growth and acoustic emission monitoring have been carried out on the type304austenitic stainless steels using the newly designed test-apparatus which can perform a fatigue test in the vacuum・chamber of SEM, It was found by the in・situ experiments that the crack growth rate of sensitized specimens in the vacuum chamber were slightly accelerated as compared with that of solution treated ones、 The combined technique of the sequentially direct observation by SEM and acoustic㎝ission monitoring during cyclic Ioading was applied to study crack open and closure behaviors and also to determine the cτack opening load.Their results were successful, With comparedto the results of fractography, the characteristics of amplitude spectrum distributions of AE sign&ls due to fatigue crack growth were related to the feature of fracture surface and the fatigue cracking micromechanisms.
