New gas detector which can measure gas type, concentration and location from a remote place has been developed. The principle theory is to detect Raman scattering light generated by laser irradiation for the gases. Though the target gas of the present research is hydrogen, it is possible to measure other various gases by exchanging optical filters. Therefore, the method is also applicable to measure gases in the mining industry and plant facility as well as hydrogen utilizing facility. It has been shown by the experiment that it is possible to measure hydrogen, methane and nitrogen from a remote place. Further improvements to increase the accuracy is thought to be necessary so that it can be used in the actual industry.
