Sulpiride at a dose of 150 mg daily was administered to 36 patients who had unidentified complaints following bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy for various underlying diseases such as ovarian tumors and hysteromyoma etc. Unidentified complaint scores, FSH, LH, and PRL levels were measured before and after 4 weeks of treatment.
The following results were obtained :
1) High gonadotropin and normal PRL levels were observed in these patients.
2) The effects of ovarian deficiency were stronger in patients for whom sulpiride treatment was started over 7 months after surgery (Group II) than in patients for whom medication was started within 6 months after surgery (Group I).
3) Following drug administration, decreased unidentified complaint scores, and FSH and LH levels were observed, but there were increases in PRL levels.
4) Sulpriride was more effective for patients in Group II than in Group I.
No side effects were observed in any of the patients.
