Mixed mesodermal tumors of the ovary are rare gynecological malignancies. In Japan, only 19 cases of mixed mesodermal tumors of the ovary have been reported. This type of tumor is not only rare but also presents an usual poor prognosis. To date, no good post-surgical therapy involving chemotherapy and radiation therapy has been proven.
A case of mixed mesodermal tumor of the ovary arising in a multiparous female has been reported. The tumor consisted of adenocarcinoma in the epithelial component and homologous sarcomatous elements in the interstitial component.
Post-operative multi-agent chemotherapy using CDDP, CBDCA and etoposide was performed and up to the time of the reporting, the patient stayed alive with no signs of recurrence.

There is a conciderable incidence of out-clinic patients who complained of hypermenorrhea (10 %). Menstrual blood loss was measured by alkali hematine method and uterine abnormalities were examined by ultrasonography and hysteroscopy in the 18 patients who complained of hypermenorrehea. Only eight patients had a mean menstrual blood loss of over 60ml and anemia. The other 10 patients whose menstrual blood loss was less than 60ml, had no severe anemia. These results suggest that over 60ml of menstrual blood loss should be abnormal as objective hypermenorrhea. The number of used pads was not correlated with menstrual blood loss. In the eight patients with objective hypermenorrhea, uterine myomas were found in four patients and endometrial polyp was found in one patient by hysteroscopic and ultrasonographic examination. However, in two patients out of eight, no organic, endocrinological and blood coagulation cause of hypermenorrhea was found.

Ultrasonography enabled us to detect numerous anomalies in utero. We have encountered two cases of fetal cystic hygroma diagnosed in the first trimester and early in the second trimester. Ultrasonography revealed an edematous change around the neck and head, followed by a cystic change at the neck with hydrops fetalis. This cystic lesion increased in size and expanded from the posterior to the anterior portion of the neck. These changes indicate that the embryological progress of the jugular lymphatic obstruction sequence depends on the fetal development. Some cases requiring differential diagnoses were discussed.

We present a case of an adenomatous hyperplasia arising at the site of an endometriotic cyst of the ovary. The patient was a 41-year-old woman, who visited our outpatient clinic complaining of dysmenorrhea. A gynecological examination and a CT scan revealed cystic tumors at both ovaries. Postoperatively, a small papillary lesion was found at the inner wall of the right cyst. By histological examination, a benign papillary lesion was found, and classified as endometriosis with adenomatous hyperplasia.
The present case indicates that adenomatous hyperplasia may arise from endometriosis of the ovary as well as from endometrium of the uterus.
