The technique of thin-layer gel filtration using Sephadex G-200 Superfine is described. Serum proteins are separated into 3 major fractions: A-fraction, G-fraction and M-fraction. Each fraction is quantitated with dye elution technique. The technique is relatively easy, and its result is almost comparable to that of ultracentrifugal analysis. Thus, we believe that it should be used routinely for screening serum protein abnormalities.
Also described are the normal values of adult serum proteins analyzed with this technique, and the correlation between the results obtained with this technique and the cellulose acetate electrophoretic technique.
