Two layer injection molded parts in which the top and bottom layers were composed of either different materials or of the same material but with different colors were fabricated on a simultaneous composite injection molding machine. The effects of gate shape and processing conditions such as cylinder temperature and injection rate in obtaining uniform equal thicknesses for the two layers were examined. At the gate the interface between the two layers should be maintained horizontally. Low cylinder temperatures and injection rates were found suitable, because shear flow could be generated at the interface.
