Recently, structural reaction injection molding (SRIM) has been noted as a rapid molding method for composite materials. In this method, the preformed reinforcements are preset and molded in the cavity as in conventional resin transfer molding (RTM). In this study, epoxy resin was used as the matrix and glass fiber mats and cloths were used as reinforcements. The relationship between the conformation of reinforcements and the moldability and mechanical properties of molded composites were investigated. Preheating and degassing operations for the matrix resin were effective to prevent voids in the molded products. The continuous strand mats of glass fiber played an important role for the wetting action between the matrix resin and fibers. Mechanical properties of SRIM composite products depended on the content and structure of the reinforcement materials.

This paper describes the effect, on fusion strength, of design factors of electrofusion (EF) joints, which are new-type fusion joints for polyethylene gas pipes.
A comprehensive evaluation method for EF joint integrity has been developed. First, fusion interface temperature and welding voltage and current were continuously measured while block specimens were being fused. Then, wire movement was observed and the width of the molten layers was measured with a polarzing microscope.
A determination of the fusion mechanism of EF joints is attempted, and the influence of various design factors on fusion strength is discussed. The relationships between the fusion joint strength and input energy or interface temperature when wire arrangement, conditions of welding current and voltage, and wire material were varied, were clarified using block specimens.
Wire temperature during application of welding current was measured. The thermal degradation of polyethylene resin in the vicinity of the wires by FT-IR and GPC analysis was chemically examined.

The parison formation process is very important during blow molding, because the mechanical strength of the product is influenced by the thickness distribution and depends on parison thickness, diameter and the temperature distribution.
This paper describes the results of experimental and theoretical analysis for the swelling, draw-down and cooling behavior during the parison formation process. The parison temperature distribution is calculated using a one-dimensional unsteady state heat conductive equation and the results agree with experimental values.
With regard to swelling behavior, three parameters whichd efine the time dependence of swelling are evaluated from linear visco-elastic model and they are closely related to the wall shear stress at the die exit. In the case of draw-down behavior, the expresses the extent of draw-down are evaluated and it is closely parameter which related to parison weight, molding time and viscosity at low shear rate.
