An application was developed for measuring the amount of white soil spotted on a dark-colored flat substrate or dark-colored textile. The image capturing system was constructed using a commercially available digital camera which can be operated from the connected computer. Experimental specimens were prepared by adhering red dyestuff to a white tile and a piece of white cloth, or by adhering white paint to a black tile or a piece of navy blue cloth, and they were used for checking the application system of this study.

It was clarified that the area of dark soil on a white tile does not show good correlation with the amount of soil. But the total amount of K/S values of each pixel (ΣK/S value) showed good correlation with the amount of soil. The amount of white soil adhered to a black tile could be calculated by reversing RGB values of the image data. Some amount of differences in the ΣK/S values between two sides of the soiled cloths were observed for both of dark soil adhered to a white cloth and white soil adhered to a navy blue cloth. But, it was found that the average of ΣK/S value of two sides corresponded to the amount of soil. It can be concluded that the newly developed image processing system for measuring dirt amount can be applied to white-colored soil adhered to a dark colored substrate.

The purpose of this study was to examine men's attitudes toward underwear, and the underlying psychological “meaning” they place on putting particular underwear. Firstly, the study illustrated the consumers' attitudes and behavior toward underwear by age groups. It was found that men across age groups had distinct, diverse attitudes and behavior toward underwear. Secondly, the study was followed by the investigation of the psychological mechanism behind men's commitment to underwear with several psychological effects. The psychological model of men's commitment to underwear was verified and it indicated that the underwear had psychological effects on men and those expectations toward the effects led to underwear-conscious mindset. Therefore, men, in trying to successfully cope with various challenges in a wide range of contexts in daily life, tend to gain psychological resources, although the psychological processes are not so much as differentiated by women.
