Long flared skirts were made of 4 kinds of fabrics: sheeting, broadcloth, satin crepe and cupro. After hanging for 2 weeks, deformation of the skirt under the clothing's own weight was measured at 40 measuring points on the intersection of vertical (column) and horizontal (row) measuring lines. A circular stamp of 20mm in diameter was used to measure the local strain on the skirts. The results were as follows; 1) The strain on the skirts increased in the gravity direction, and decreased in the orthogonal direction; 2) The results of 3-way ANOVA test indicated that local deformation on the skirts changed significantly (p<0.05) with each factor, that is fabric (satin crepe>cupro>sheeting broadcloth), row (2nd>3rd>1st>4th) and column (side>center); 3) The dislocation of the side line of the flared skirts was considered to be due to the difference in the local strain between the right and left bias of the fabrics; 4) The local strain on the 2nd and 3rd row showed significant correlations (p<0.01) with the mechanical characteristics of fabrics, especially bending and shearing.
