The performance of weathermeter which are strongly required in paint tests are divided into the following three items.
(1) Similarity of the results obtained by weathermeter to those of Weathering test.
(2) Acceleration ratio of weathermeter test to Weathering test.
(3) Reproducibility of the results obtained by weathermeter.
The similarity and the acceleration ratio should be discussed on the assumption that there may exist a standard location of exposure and a standard value of test results.
However, in actual, the boundary conditions in atmosphere are always changeable owing to various locations or seasons of exposure; accordingly, the reproducibility of the results cannot be expected.
In these experiments, the complicated boundary conditions in atmosphere (especially solar radiation, which is a main element in Weathering test) were investigated and it was determined what kind of weathermeter and test condition was most excellent in respect to the similarity and the acceleration ratio.
