The author applied hot-dip lead coating on steel with the fluxes of NH
4Cl, ZnCl
2, SnCl
2 and SbCl
3, and examined the properties of the coatings. This report mainly deals with the result of the experiments done by using ZnCl
2 as flux.
The potential curves were taken under the following conditions:
Bath Concentration…2.5-10.0% H
2SO
4Current Density ……4.45-26.66mA/cm
2The anode, 15mm×20mm, was placed in the center of the cylindrical cathode of lead plate. Keeping current density constant the change of potential was measured and plotted taking the time of electrolysis as ordinate.
When the adhesion of lead layer is poor the potential is about 0.2 volts, and when the adhesion is better it is about 3.0 volts.
The existence of the interfacial layer between steel and lead, however, could not be determined by these experiments only.
The tendency that the potential is proportional to the thickness of lead coating is almost the same as in the former researches.
