Previously, new analytical methods using E. D. T. A. (ethylenediamine tetra-acetate) reagent have been proposed by one of the authors for the quantitative determination of metallic constituents in various plating solutions.
These methods concerning Zn in zinc plating solution, Cd in cadmium plating solution, Cu in copper plating solution and Ni in dull nickel plating solution, were examined in this laboratory; each of which consisted of the titration of the respective metals with 0.05M EDTA standard solution, and as a result, the new methods were more favorable than other analytial methods used in plating practices.
This report deals with one of the studies on the new methods using a 0.05
M E. D. T. A. standard solution, i. e., a new analytical procedure for the quantitative determination of nickel in a conventional bright nickel plating bath containing cobalt as a main constituent.
In the new method, a known volume of 0.05
M E. D. T. A. solution was introduced into a test solution and followed by a back-titration with 0.05
M Th(NO

4 using Alizarin-S as an indicator. This method is principally based on the recent proposal made by Haar and Bazen. An attempt was made to accomplish a new method in a practical use for the quantitative determination of nickel in bright nickel plating solution containing cobalt and it was proved that this procedure was a simple, direct and rapid one which gave an accurate result.
