It is difficult in real buildings to study control parameters and the device settings for effective operation of HVAC systems. An experimental facility was constructed according to the survey on water distribution systems in real buildings. The energy consumption of two major control methods is studied with the facility and the effect of setting status of operation parameters on the energy consumption are revealed. Improvement methods are proposed from the experimental results.

The aim of this paper is to confirm that the energy reduction methodologies presented in the previous paper are valid also for a whole building. First, we develop a simulation model for water circuit that considers flow and pressure balance. Second, the simulation model is used for annual calculation to derive energy consumption in a whole building. The results show energy reduction methods proposed in the previous paper are valid also for a whole building.

It becomes difficult to keep indoor air at the appropriate temperature as faults occur, and the faults cause waste in regards to a buildings' energy consumption. So it is important to promptly restore a normal condition when the fault occurs. So far in this research, we have created an FDD (fault detection and diagnosis) tool for narrowing down the place where the fault occurs, by using simulation with only few data items. This paper describes the verification of the FDD tool by experiment vis-a-vis small-scale experimental building and the introduction effect in medium-scale buildings by simulation.

However, recently it is revealed that the copper tubes themselves often are slipped out from the copper flare fitting joints used between the AC units and the copper tubes. We proposed an estimation method of cooling capacity, to realize the onsite performance verification conveniently without flow rate data of air and refrigerant, on inverter-drive package air conditioners (PAC). This method was evaluated by comparison with experimental equipment (Cooling capacity of 2.8kW). As a result, it was confirmed that this method could estimate the cooling capacity of refrigeration system in about 16% of the precision. And, this method applied the PAC system (Cooling capacity of 16.8kW). We considered the technical subject of this estimation method of cooling capacity, form a viewpoint of onsite performance verification of inverter-drive PAC.

Based on field test results, it was confirmed that high performance of consecutive removal of scale origin substances was achieved by water electrolysis using titanium electrodes. 1) This water process technique removes a scale ingredient included in circulating cooling water. 2) The device keeps long-term performance by the change on the polarity of the electrode plate. 3) The system operated for more than 6 months without maintenance and kept its high performance. 4) To evaluate the performance, the amount of removed substances in a unit time was calculated from dissolved evaporation residual substances before and after the electrolysis.

We assumed the work area and measured the current of air velocity in unidirectional airflow from ceiling. It is preferable to form the unidirectional airflow so that pollution should not diffuse. The criterion of the mean velocity of above the floor level 900mm and 1500mm is 0.25m/s or more. We obtained the result of the relation between the angle and the distance at the ciling diffuser.

This report focuses on the modeling air ducts and the mathematical limited pressure. Recently, the air duct made of thinner iron sheet is used for the reason of the global environmental protection and the construction. However, the strength of the air ducts is not clear. Therefore, we constructed the prediction of the limited pressure in the normal air ducts. The normal air duct made of many parts is replaced to the simple structural elements. As the result, the elementary structural mechanics are applied.

This report focuses on the consideration of limited pressure graph in air ducts. We calculated the pressure that the element of the air duct breaks with the prediction expression. The predicted value is compared with the specification of the air duct sizes that SHASE determined. As the results, almost elements of the air duct meet the standard. However, the bending strength of the TDC duct's flange is weaker than the flange of the angles ducts. We got observations concerning the air duct size and strength.

NHL (=Natural Hydraulic Lime) is a natural material that has been reviewed from the improvement of consideration to health and the environment in Europe in recent years. The performances such as adiabaticity, thermal storage, humidity control, and gases adsorbent were confirmed from a past research. Moreover, NHL can have the various performances by the mixing thing and the ratio. This research shows a basic environmental performances of NHL and an application to the louver that made the best use of water retentivity.

It is well known that thermal mixing losses occur and increase energy consumption for HVAC systems caused by the air movements due to the simultaneous heating in perimeter zones and cooling in interior zones in office spaces in winter. 20 cases of experiments were conducted with several elements such as different room temperature settings in two zones using a real scale testing room. The amounts of the mixing losses were estimated and the causative mechanism was analyzed through 27 kinds of simulations with multiple linear regression equations derived from the experiments.

In this study, case studies of CFD analysis in the fault state of HVAC systems for office space were conducted and the contributions to indoor thermal and air environment of the factors including fault part were also evaluated using air supply ratio and CRI_<(C)>. Since the thermal contributions of fault parts become large value, the possibility as a new fault detection method using CRI_<(C)> and the temperature and humidity sensor was shown.

In this paper, the outline of coupled simulation of HVACSIM+(J) and CFD analysis was presented. As case studies for office space, the results of coupled simulation of cooling coil (TYPE602), PID control (TYPE707) and CFD were described. According to comparison of results of experiment and simulation, the prediction accuracy of the simulation for cooling coil and Indoor thermal and air environment was high although it was the steady state simulation. Therefore, this simulation method has possibilities for design tool or fault detection tool of HVAC systems.

Thermal mixing loss that occurs due to the heating in perimeter zones and cooling in interior zones in office spaces in winter, is one of the problems that must be possibly avoided for energy saving. A method is proposed to estimate the daily thermal loads caused only by thermal mixing structures among the loads that are different from each other in two seasons because of both mixing structures and outdoor conditions and is verified through computer simulations using an artificial neural network for the estimation model.

In office buildings there are generally two HVAC systems installed, one in the perimeter zone (PZ) and another in the interior zone (IZ), and the temperatures of each zone are independently controlled. To solve problem of not being able to satisfy the requirements of room temperature control in winter, optimal PI parameter are selected through simulation of its two feedback control systems with mutual influence using the models identified with the experimental data. The result shows quantitatively the influence of the room temperature settings on control performance of two zones.

This paper proposes a method to optimize the set point of supply air temperature from the aspect of the energy consumption. In this paper, a tool to seek the optimized set point using simulation were developed and applied to the operational data measured in an actual system with the traditional control strategy. The simulation results show that the energy consumption can be reduced about 3.3 to 14.3% if the set point of supply air temperature is optimized.

The characteristics of earth surface coverage in the major city in Japan were investigated by using the image data obtained from Google Earth. The areas within 5km distance from the station near the prefectural government have a little ratio of green coverage. However, there are some cities where the green coverage ratio of the suburb area reaches the value from 30 to 50%. The seaside cities have the water coverage ratio from 10 to 30% more than that of the other cities.

This paper clarifies the green, water and field coverage that reduce the heat island phenomena and the road coverage that accelerates the heat island phenomena for 41 cities in Japan. However the green coverage ratios in the cities near the mountains and green space are from 20 to 45%, those in the cities with a few parks are less than 5%. The water coverage ratios in the coastal cities are from 20 to 45%. On the other hand, they are about 3% in the inland cities. The populous cities have little field coverage. The road coverage ratios are within the range from 5 to 12%.

The heat island phenomenon has become a serious problem in large cities in Japan. Especially, increases in the number of Nettaiya (nights in which the lowest temperature is not less than 25degrees C) have caused serious damage to human health. We measured temperature and wind conditions in waterfront areas of Tokyo to confirm the effectiveness of sea breezes. Our findings indicate that it is possible to create Kaze-no-Michii, wind paths formed by creating open spaces through a city, to make best use of the cooling effect of the sea breeze in waterfront areas.

The heat island phenomenon in metropolitan area like Tokyo attracts public attention. This paper considered the effect of greening at an urban redevelopment area. Temperatures were measured at many points in the redevelopment area, surrounding areas, and a site about 4 km away from the redevelopment area by small temperature sensor loggers and thermographic cameras summer of 2007. The redevelopment area with many trees and lawns was slightly cooler (1〜3℃) than the surrounding areas and areas with only buildings.

A thermal performance of the greening system that used the moss was evaluated. The data of the day to which fine weather had continued after it had rained was analyzed about the summer of 2007. It measured it when a fine day was consecutive. As a result, the moss contains rain water, and the surface temperature of the experiment box in the outside surface temperature, the temperature of the indoor glove, and the ceiling has decreased. When fine weather is consecutive, the effect of the moss has become small.

ADELINE 3.0 has two calculation subroutines based on the ray-tracing method and radiosity method. In order to verify the simulation accuracy, the estimation results are compared with the experimental results in a simple house model and in the full scale experiment house in which the light ducts are installed. The program is able to simulate the daylight illuminance distribution with high accuracy for a cloudy sky. On the other hand, the correction is necessary for a fine weather because an optics property value of the building materials surface has strong influence for the estimation.

Subjective evaluation for the ambient luminous condition such as brightness and luminous intensity in the room of daylit was clarified. The first impression of brightness sensation when subjects entered the daylit experimental room was improved compared with that for the normal condition. More than half of the subjects judged ceiling luminaire could be turned off in the case when the illuminance on the desk was higher than 300lx.

Method of sealing up the pipe with Ice Plug (Ice Plug Method) is an industrial method where water in pipe is cooled from the outside the piping by using the liquid nitrogen(LN2), so that the water freezes in the piping. We investigated the cause of the air cooled packaged air-conditioner failure for the data centers. Possible associations between increased elapsed years of the air-conditioners, increased the failure rate and recovery time has been turned out. Furthermore, we evaluated the reliability of the air-conditioning system using the field data. The results showed that the minimum number of the reserve machines which the reliability of an air-conditioning system sustained under the elapsed years failure problem was two sets.

In this paper, we carry out a case study in which we estimate potential reductions in CO_2 emissions from the residential and non-residential sectors of the Toyonaka city, Japan, considering technological advancement, dissemination of energy saving technologies. The results of the case study show that a CO_2 emission reduction about 47% of the current emission is achievable by combining these measures for residential and non-residential building sector and management of building stock while one fifth of the reduction can be attributed to a decrease in population in Toyonaka city.

It is said that 70% reduction of CO_2 emissions from 1990 levels will be required in Japan up to 2050. On the other hand, the CO_2 emissions associated with commercial buildings are extended rapidly in recent years, thus reduction of CO_2 emissions in this sector is urgent and crucial concern. In this paper, the authors have developed the long-term prediction model for CO_2 emissions associated with commercial buildings up to 2050. The prediction via this model shows a potential maximum 71% reduction of CO_2 emissions associated with commercial buildings from 1990 levels by 2050.

Fluorescent lights have mercury (metallic mercury) that might bring the health hazard. Moreover, the energy saving of fluorescent lights is paid to attention in recent years, and lamp type fluorescent lights is in the increasing tendency. However, the law of the fluorescent lights processing is vague, and data about segregation, processing, and recycling of fluorescent lights is a little. Then, this study shows actual condition of segregation, processing, and the recycling of a domestic fluorescent lights.

In a previous study, the authors measured the exact weight of construction materials and waste of a newly constructed house to determine the amount of CO_2 emissions produced from these building materials. Another study was then conducted, this time involving the construction of two new wooden houses, to again determine the amount of CO_2 emissions related to the construction materials and waste used in building the two houses. The authors then recalculated the data into a per floor unit of measurement. The per floor unit of measurement for each of the two new houses were compared to each other, as well as to the previous housing study mentioned above.

In this study, the amount of CO_2 reduction and economic ripple effect when not introducing the wood which is a main material of construction from another prefecture were searched for. Moreover, the transportation route of wood is grasped and fuel consumption and CO_2 emissions were measured in Tochigi Prefecture and neighboring regions. The effect by local resource utilization became clear that it can become effective in an environmental side and the economical side.

"Urban Productivity" was defined as an index that quantitatively evaluated Amenity in the city supported by the energy consumed and the amount of the CO_2 exhaust of one unit. "Coefficient of Energy Consumption for Urban Block (CEC-UB)" is index for estimating the energy performance of Urban Block. In this report, we propose these Index for planning Urban Brock and report the result of calculating the index for an existing urban block.

We proposed the idea of the sampling system with multipoint simultaneous of asbestos in air by using the stream of an air-conditioning system. We reported in this thesis about the necessary sensitivity for the judgment and results of the survey of the possibility of the Sampling-Pad. As the instant judgment, we obtained that the sensitivity of "Certain" judgment to 10 fibers/L was required from some of document investigations and the dust collection experiments. We confirmed the effectiveness of Sampling-Pad and the decentralized observation of asbestos from the experiment by use of disk sampler.
