These reports refer to “The effects and changes of Iron in Zinc Hydro-metallurgy” in the experiments on a small scale and researches in industrial working, combined together. The whole reports are divided into three items: namely, Roasting, Leaching, and Electrolysis.
The following are only a part of “The effects and changes in Roasting. Operation”, and these few points are treated in the present partial report.
(a) Through the microscopic researches of zinc blende which is used in my industrial working, the fact has been made clear that iron contained in zinc are always exists in the form of iron pyrite (FeS
2),
(b) To get an easy understanding of the action of the mixture of zinc blende (ZnS) and iron pyrite (FeS
2), the separate roasting experiments of nearly pure zinc blende, the mixture of zinc blende (ZnS) and ferric oxide (Fe
20
3), and that of zinc oxide (ZnO) and iron pyrite (FeS
2) were made first, and then the roasting experiment of the mixture of zinc blende (ZnS) and iron pyrite (FeS
2). Thus the process of formation of zinc ferrite and zinc sulphate was ascertained.
(c) Moreover, the effects of iron upon the formation of zinc sulphate (ZnSO
4) were tested by changing the volume of air supplied to give blende, and the mixture of zinc blende (ZnS) and iron pyrite (FeS
2).
