1. Hollow Drill Steels:-Until quite recently the almost all hollow drill steels were imported from various countries; but at present the home-made drills are used in many mines and the comparative tests are being done with good results. The author tabulated the chemical compositions of various drills from home and abroad. He also compared their fractures, micro-photographs and contents of non-metallic inclosures, and concluded that, in a quite near future, our drill steels will be independent from abroad in their quality and quantity.
2. Wire-Rope:-By a long self-sacrifying investigations of the both companies, Tokyo Seiko and Kobe Steel Works, the wire rope and its materials for mining have come to total independence from abroad. Even the ropes with awfully high strength for special purposes in Army and Navy are already being made without much difficulty. The author gave a rough sketch of wire drawing and rope design, -&.
3. Hard Metals of Widia-type:-During the last 10 years, the art of manufacture of the hard metals, WC as chief constituent, in our country has made a great progress. They are much used as cutting tools in machine shops and as drawing dies and plugs in wire and pipe industry. But their applications in mining are very much limitted compared with those in foreign countries, so the author drew attention of the mining engineers, describing the properties and characteristics of the most modern home-made hard metals, ‘Igetalloy’ and ‘Tagalloy.’
