Formerly it was reported by Prof. Dr. R. Abe that the mine gases were adsorbed by the coal dusts of Endai-coal-mine in Manchuria. If this phenomenon occurs in the common relation between the mine gases and the coal dusts, it would be noteworthy.
In this report, the mine gases contained in the Tagawa seam of Omine-coal-mine in Kyushu, the Furukawa Minining Co., were analized and the adsorption of the gases by the coal dusts was measured.
The results are as follows.
(1) The gases coatained in the Tagawa seam of Omine-coal-mine are composed of CO
2 6.07%, CO 0.45%, H
2 4.61%, CH
4, 74.68% C
2H
6 2.01%. CmHn 0.34%, O
2 2.36%, N
2 9.48%, (But by calculating from this result, it would be supposed that the sample was mixed with about 12% of air.)
It is worth pointing out that the sample contains H
2 4.61%, which containment has been denied in Japanese coal mine gases heretofore.
(2) The gases are adsorbed by the coal dusts of the same seam by 4.50 cc/g (at 0°C) and 2.87 cc/g (at 25°C) this adsorbability of the coal dusts is about 1/6 of that of an active carbon.
