Flow pattern, velocity distribution of grinding media on the mill vessel wall of sandmill equipped with horizontal pins-discs or vertical pins-discs were observed and measured by use of 16 mm cinecamera and the behavior of grinding media on the neighborhood of these pins-discs was investigated by videocamera as the previous paper. Glass beads was used as the grinding media and water and cornsyrup solution as vehicle. The dispersion region of pin-disc mill was estimated.
In the dispersion experiment, calcium carbonate was used as a pigment. The application of Alyavdin-Chujo equation which was used to analyze the dispersion characteristic of ball mill was investigated in the horizontal pin-disc mill. The dispersion behavior of the pins-disc mill indicated three periods, that is, the initial stage of dispersion, the middle stage of dispersion and the terminal stage of dispersion. Correlation equation between grinding time and undersize particle F % in each stage of the pin-disc mill was respectively, presented by eq. (9), eq. (10) and eq. (11).
Correlation equation for the starting time and the terminal time of the middle stage of dispersion was obtained by use of dimensional analysis.
Although these results were obtained within the range of limited experiments, it was found that the dispersion behavior of sand mill could be investigated under these three periods.
