In order to obtain information on the dyeing mechanism of polyester fibers with azomethine dyes, we have investigated the interactions between a poly (ethylene terephthalate) film (PET) and azomethine dyes by the analysis of UV and visible absorption spectra in applying a modified McRae' s equation. The orientation force of the azomethine dyes estimated from the equation was about 0.1-0. 2kcal/mol, which was about 1 - 2 % of the total dye-PET interaction. The sum of dispersion and induction force of the azomethine dyes estimated from the equation was 7-14kcal/mol, which was about 98-99% of the total dye-PET interaction.
Intercalation of organic phosphates and chiral amines into layered γ -zirconium phosphate, Zr (HPO4) 2·2 H2O (abbreviated ZrP), was examined by XRD, elemental analysis, and TG. A linear relationship was recognized between carbon numbers of alkyl group and the basal spacing of intercalation compounds. The slope of the straight line was determined to be 1. 56, from which a tilting angle was calculated to be 38°, indicating the formation of bilayers of organic phosphate in the ZrP layer. Basal spacing and content of amine and organic phosphate of the intercalation compound were held constant over 250mmol/the organic phosphate was 250mmol/L or more. These results suggested that both the organic phosphate and chiral amine were intercalated into ZrP a at constant ratio and also that regular chiral intercalation compound was formed.
The objective of this study is to raise the solubilizing ability of vesicles consisting of didodecyldimethylammonium bromide (DDAB), a double chain cationic surfactant. We investigated the effects of β-cyclodextrin (β-CyD, a water-soluble oligosaccharide capable of incorporating molecules of proper sizes) added to the inner aqueous phase of the vesicles on the solubilization of aromatic compounds with the equilibrium dialysis, fluorescent probe, and dynamic light scattering methods. The size of DDAB vesicles loaded with β-CyD was found to be 60 nm when they were prepared under ultrasonic irradiation for a sufficiently long time. The solubilization equilibrium constant (K) of benzilic acid, which is a solubilizate hardly incorporated by the cyclodextrin, was noticeably larger for the β-CyD-loaded vesicles than that for DDAB vesicles containing no cyclodextrin (60 nm), whereas no remarkable increase was found in the K value of 3-phenylpropionic acid (HCA), which is a solubilizate easily incorporated by the cyclodextrin. Consequently, it was concluded that oily substances which are hardly incorporated by β-CyD are solubilized easily in the vesicle bilayers through the change in the bilayer property caused by the cyclodextrin in the inner aqueous phase of the vesicles.
