We studied the effect of oils in oxidation hair dye on its dyeing ability in a p-phenylendiamine/hydrogen peroxide model system. It was found that the dyeing ability was influenced by the polarity of oils and C
18-20 branched alcohol improved the dyeing ability most effectively. The improvement of the dyeing included the dyeing rate and the durability of colour.
It was assumed that the improvement of dyeing with oils was achieved by the accelerated penetration of dyes and different oxidation products resulted from a different mechanism.
