In order to obtain a satisfactory controlling results, there are many cases in which we need to use suitable computing elements in the control circuit.
The authors designed a simple pneumatic computing element of force balance type as follows, and then carried out the detailed investigations of its dynamical characteristics.
This pneumatic computing element as shown in Fig. 2 can act not only for various computing manipulations but also as an automatic controller with proportional and integral action or any other actions.
Therefore, we carried out the theoretical and experimental investigations of the various cases by calculating the transfer function of each controlling action.
From the results of our investigations, it was recognized that the simple pneumatic computing element can be extensively applied to computing device, automatic controller and compensating apparatus provided that the element be suitably designed and exactly built.
