The greatest difficulty with which magnet designers are faced is to find out the way of determining the value of the leakage co-efficient which shows the extent of leakage in the circuit to be designed. In this paper, the effects by the dimensions of circuit or sectional area and length of air gap, and by length of yokes forming the transverse and longitudinal parts of the circuit, are mainly discussed, taken up from among the various factors affecting the leakage co-efficient. As the results of the experiment, some quantitative relations have been found between the leakage co-efficient and the dimensional values. The problem of surface leakage and fringing are also described.
