The patient was a 9-month-old boy, whose maternal grandparents were cousins.
One of his elder brothers had suffered from a similar condition at his 6 months of age.
About 3 months before his admission, he had developed cutaneous eruptions, loss of scalp hair, deformity of nails, photophobia and emaciation. Intestinal disturbances such as diarrhea or abdo minal pain were not seen.
Routine laboratory examinations were within normal range.
Ophthalmologic studies revealed keratomalacia and acute conjunctivitis on the right eye.
Treatment with Entero-vioform excellently improved his condition. This is the 20th case reported in Japan.
