FL cells were cultured in 0.5 % lactalbumin hydrolysate Earle 's balancedsolution containing 15 % ox serum to which Hydroxocobalamin (V.B12) was added. The cells had decreased in number by the addition of 100μg/ml of V.B
12, but grown in the medium containing 10 μg/ml of V.B
12 assame as the control (Fig. 1).
The effect of V.B
12 on the growth of herpes simplex virus was thenstudied. Herpes simplex virus that had been isolated in FL cells and identifiedby us was inoculated to FL cells. The cells were cultured in the mediumcontaining 3% ox serum to which 10 pg/ml of V.B
12 was added. As shownin Fig. 2 and Fig. 3 the viral growths were not affected with 10 μg/ml of V.B
12 both in the supernatant and the cells that were tested after 3 timesof freezing-thawing.
