    Pollen analytical studies were conducted on the Unit1-2 of Bushi Formation in Azu, Hanno City. The fossil pollen assemblages were characterized by Picea,Pinus, Tsuga, Pseudolarix, Metasequoia - type,Cryptomeria, Alnus, Fagus and Quercus(Lepidobalanus).Paleovagetation can be presumed to be the coniferous forest and the deciduous broad - leaved forest of the cool temperate zone level. Swamp forest indicated at Alnus, Metasequoia with partly Fraxinus mandshurica. Climatic condition was cooler or slightly cooler than that of the present.
    Fossil pollen assemblage included extinct taxa, Pseudolarix, Metasequoia, Cunninghamia, Cyclocarya, Hemiptelea.
    Cyclocarya fossil pollen identified have 4-5 germinal aperture and thickness of exine more than Juglans - Pterocarya fossil pollen.

    Ultramafic body from Mt.Kamafuseyama in Sanbagawa metamorphic belt consists of serpentinites. These serpentinites can be divided into five types (Type A to E), based on extent of serpentinization and deformation. Type A characterized by mesh texture with talc vein (pseudomorphic texture) ; Type B characterized by interlocking texture as serrate serpentines (pseudomorphic texture) ; Type C characterized by hourglass and interlocking texture partly bearing chlorite (transitional texture) ; Type D characterized by interpenetrating texture (non-pseudomorphic texture) ; Type E is serpentine mylonite (non-pseudomorphic texture). These textures may indicate that Mt. Kamafuseyama had undergone Sanbagawa regional metamorphism and deformation.

    The Cretaceous System in the Sanchu Graben shows the long and narrow distribution of WNW-ESE trend in the Chichibu Belt of the Kanto Mountains. It also shows the arch structure as peak near the Shigasaka Pass. The form of this Arch structure is asymmetry which gently tilts to westward and medium d ) dips to eastward. This Arch structure is blocked by many transverse faults in direction of NNE-SSW to NE-SW trend. The arch and block structures formed to be closely related to the magmatic uplift movement in the central part of the Kanto Mountains during middle period Middle Miocene to Late Miocene. In this paper, we treated of the feature of the igneous activity in the Kanto Mountains and surrounding areas during the Cenozoic Era -especially after Middle Miocene-, while considered the feature and origin of the arch and block structures of the Sanchu Graben.

    To investigate earthworm fauna, earthworm sampling was performed from both side of Arakawa river in Nagatoro Town.From six sampling sites, eighteen species belonging to three genera of earthworms, including two tentative undescribed species, were collected.It is the first time to record Pheretima disticha, P.lactea, P.egascolidioides, P.okutamaensis, and Aporrectodea rosea in Saitama Prefecture.According to the result of present survey and previous records, the megadrile fauna in Saitama Prefecture consists of 21 valid species belonging to two families.

    The authors report the summary of 61 "Tetsugoro Wakimizu rock specimens". They are collected from the Minoakasaka Kinshouzan limestone where is famous as the Japanese paleontology birthplace. Three of them are the fossils which Wakimizu oneself printed in earth science textbooks of the Meiji and Taisho era. Wakimizu advocated these fossils in a text for having received indication from Kotora Jimbo. Geologic historic value was discovered for the first time and was given it about the chest which received a specimen. By this study, the geologic historic value of the specimen group became higher.
