We present a computational method to solve RPA eigenvalue equation employing a uniform grid representation in the three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate. The conjugate gradient method, an iterative method for a generalized eigenvalue problem, is used for this purpose. We apply the present method to Hartree-Fock +RPA calculation with BKN-like interaction and Skyrme interaction.

Density functional theory (DFT) is applied to atomic spectra under perturbations of superfluid liquid helium. The atomic DFT of helium is used to obtain the distribution of helium atoms around the impurity atom, and the electronic DFT is applied to the excitations of the atom, averaging over the ensemble of helium configurations. The shift and broadening of the D_1 and D_2 absorption lines are quite well reproduced by theory, suggesting that the DFT may be useful for describing spectral perturbations in more complex environments.

We construct the dynamical model for the time evolution of the bosn-fermion coexistent system. The dynamics of boson and fermions are formulated with the time-dependent Gross-Pitaevsky equation and the Vlasov equation. We show its detailed formulatin and the test calculation in this subject.

The structure of finite atomic system becomes complicated when N increasing, and may influence on the properties of clusters and cluster-assembled materials. We studied the near ground structures of Au_n (n from 38 to 55) clusters by using genetic algorithm with a Gupta n-body potential. The most stable configurations are found mainly disordered with the ordered isomers very close in energy to the ground state. The lowest-lying ordered structure changes from close packed mode to icosahedron-like (close shell) structure with increasing cluster size. Dynamic simulations on Au_<55> reveal the solid-solid structural transitions among different symmetric configurations, from cube-octahedron to icosahedron and disordered structure, at certain temperatures below the melting point.

The Kondo effect in coupled quantum dots is investigated theoretically under magnetic fields. We show that the magnetoconductance (MC) illustrates peak structures of the Kondo resonant spectra. When the dot-dot tunneling coupling V_C is smaller than the dot-lead coupling Δ (level broadening), the Kondo resonant levels appear at the Fermi level (E_F). The Zeeman splitting of the levels weakens the Kondo effect, which results in a negative MC. When V_C is larger than Δ, the Kondo resonances form bonding and anti-bonding levels, located below and above E_F, respectively. We observe a positive MC since the Zeeman splitting increases the overlap between the levels at E_F.
