Field operation of Japan-Korea First order Triangulation Tie was carried out from November to December of 1954 in cooperation with US Survey troops. From the comparison of the new and the old measurements, it is found that the displacement of Tsushima-Isl, is about 1 meter. The distorsion of this net is therefore 2" at most. But it is difficult to interprete the discrepancy between the Manchurian and the Japanese net systems e.i., dψ=+9", dλ=-17" on the border of Manchuria and Korea.

To investigate the general mode of the deformation of the land around the Bay of Ise, the levelling surveys along the route from Atsuta to Suzuka were carried out in 1954. The results indicate that the vertical displacements during the years from 1947 to 1954 are anging from -78 mm to -118 mm. The earth's crust in the neighborhood of the bench marks situated near the mouth of the river Kisogawa seems to have been deformed in the same sense as before, although the values of displacements were small. The zone to the east side of the Kisogawa is considered to have tilted westwards, whereas the zone to the west side of the Kisogawa was moved vertically downwards as a whole. Other local subsidences and tiltings of the land were also marked.

    K. Sassa and others of Kyoto University bad observed the tidal variation of strain of the earth by extensometers which K. Sassa devised at first, and obtained directly constant l, called Shida's number. M. Takada had observed the tidal variation of a vertical direction of the ground at Ide observatory. In this treatise, the tidal variations of the strains of vertical direction and three horizontal directions of the ground were observed at Osakayama observatory (Otsu), and then tidal components, M2, S2, K1, O1, etc., of the strains were calculated by mean of harmonic analysis. Then making use of the results, the cubic dilatation C and others constants v, h and l were computed as follows; C=0.49±0.11, v=-0.37±0.05, h=3l+0.42±0.03.

In the case of latitude observation with the floating zenith telescope, designed and constructed by B. Cookson in 1901, leveling of the telescope is skilfully secured by its free floatation on the free surface of the mercury. It is, however, to be studied that the irregular distribution of mercury temperature in the mercury basin, which really exists for the floating zenith telescope of Mizusawa, might disturbe the free floatation of the telescope. By the theoretical procedure, the results of the self recording of mercury temperature for these several years showed that the latitude values with this telescope would be less than those with the ordinary zenith telescope by the amount of about 0.04 as a mean. It is also expected that the main part of the closing sum or closing error for the floating zenith telescope would arise from the difference of effects of mercury temperature on the evening observations and on the morning observations.

A brief description is given on the results of the second order magnetic survey in Hokkaido, Tohoku and Kanto Districts. The second order magnetic stations hitherto established number 373, which are distributed in the eastern part of the land of Japan. The instrument used is the second order GSI Magnetometer. The geomagnetic values, are obtained with the accuracy of a few gammas, when they are reduced at the same epoch referring to the geomagnetic data obtained at Kakioka and Memambetsu Observatories. This may be the limit of accuracy for the geomagnetic values obtainable in the field survey. Remarkable magnetic anomalies are found in the middle part and on the south-eastern coast of Hokkaido, where the gravity anomalies are also remarkable. Local magnetic anomalies are found in the volcanic regions such as Towada, Haruna, Hakone etc., and also on the eastern coast of Tohoku District.
