The International Association of Geodesy (IAG) held its General Meeting at the Keidanren-Kaikan (Building of Federation of Economic Organizations) in Tokyo from May 7 to 15, 1982 at the invitation of the Science Council of Japan and the Geodetic Society of Japan. The participants at the General Meeting reached to as many numbers as 360, 170 from Japan and 190 from abroad, followed by 37 accompanying persons; besides the heading number of 171 Japanese participants, 47 from the United States of America, 19 from the Federal Republic of Germany, 10 from France and 10 from Canada. Asian and African countries also sent delegations, figuring 12 participants from the People's Republic of China, 8 from the Republic of Korea, 8 from the Federal Republic of Nigeria and so on. Thus the large Conference Room was filled with the participants and the meeting was fringed with colourful international atmosphere. The opening ceremony, with the honourable attendance of 2 foreign ambassadors, 6 science attaches and some 31 guests, was initiated by opening address of Professor Ietsune TSUBOKAWA, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, and by Presidential address of Professor Helmut MORITZ, President of the JAG. During the whole period of the General Meeting, in the lounges at the both sides of the Conference Room, an exhibition of the recent results of geodetic surveys as well as researches of Japan and the NOAA, USA were on display, together with various geodetic measuring instruments.
