In order to promote continuous improvement of software quality, we need to perform a quantitative management. It's because the quality of a software project effects not only effort and schedule, but also customer satisfaction directly. According to the measurement and analysis of the CMMI process area, the collection of the project information must be made on the basis of measurement needs. A data repository for the quality, reporting and feedback system should be implemented in the structure. If accumulation and evaluation of data be promoted, quality management based on projection of the defect is possible. However, in order to do this effectively, it requires understanding of statistical property of metrics and predictive modeling techniques. In this paper, as an example of efforts taken by SI services sector at IBM to CMMI, it indicates how the defect prediction and the control based on the prediction are carried out concerning quality control process. In addition, we describe the points to improve measurement process needed to achieve CMMI Maturity Level 5.

Quality Accounting is a software quality management method originated by NEC Corporation. The Quality Accounting uses a threshold management of defect count. The key techniques of Quality Accounting include the following: (1) Manage defects based on upper quality accounting from two viewpoints, defect injection phase and defect detection phase, (2) Exit decision-making in testing using three criteria, defect trend assessment, 1+n procedure with defect root cause analysis, and defect convergence determination. The practice of Quality Accounting and its effects are described in this paper. Considering the reasons of the effects, we show that the Quality Accounting can realize high quality software development.

It is important for defending the product quality to improve the work quality of the inspection process. To solve this problem, our company did the solution examination from the failure case. In the problem analysis, the technique "Reflection method" was taken as a technique of the cause investigation, the examination was executed, and one solution of enhancement of the inspection viewpoint was obtained. Moreover, originally it designed, it aimed at the form used easily, and the classification method named "Three point classification method" was examined in the arrangement of the inspection viewpoint table. In this text, it reports on the content, the effect, and the consideration of the executed problem solution measure.

In a project of developing business application software, each of designs and reviews are done for a certain amount, such as for every subsystem. The design quality of business application software is dependent on the ability of individuals. Less experienced or less skilled designers would make many potential errors in designing. "Hitori Ipponme Check" has been attracting attention as a technique to standardize design quality and to reduce such potential errors. In this paper, we report a case of project in which quality improvement was realized by "Hitori Ipponme Check" and examine its effect and necessary improvements.
