This paper reports on the results of a test involving the grinding of silica sand, talc and limestone using a closed-circuit fine-grinding system built by combining Szego Mill, by a vertical ring roller mill, and by O-SEPA which is a high-performance system.
The test results are as follows:
(1) Lower specific power consumption was available by increasing the load power of the Szego Mill.
(2) By increasing rotations of main shaft of the Szego Mill, the specific surface area of the ground material was increased. It was found that an optimum rotation of the main shaft existed for each type of ground material.
(3) Comparing the result of grinding talc using this grinding system with that of grinding using a jet mill to obtain a fine powder of BET specific surface area while maintaning the original scaliness, this system consumed power as low as 1/16 compared with that of grinding through a jet mill.
