Interactions between amino acids and solid surfaces have been an important research topic for syntheses and processes of biomaterials, design of biomedical and biosensing devices, etc. In this work, surface-enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA) spectroscopy was employed to characterize adsorption states of amino acids on gold surfaces. In particular, their orientations and binding sites are discussed based on the comparison of SEIRA spectra and spectra of the amino acids in solution.
