Part I. Possibility of tuberculous infection by the transplantation of the rib obtained from the patient who underwent thoracoplastic operation.
The auther intended to utilize the ribs obtained after thoracoplastic operations for the homogenous bone grafting. To investigate the possibility of tuberculous infection, the ribs obtained from 32 patients (pulmonary tuberculosis) were bacteriologically studied. Each piece of the ribs (bone, bone marrow, periosteum) was splitted up, mixed in 4% H2SO4 solution and centrifuged. The sediment was cultivated for 3-7 weeks, placed on the Oka-Katakura's nutrient medium. The results were negative.
Part II. Vital powers of the ribs preserved in Ringer's solution and sera of various blood types.
To investigate the vital powers of the bone grafts, the pieces of the ribs obtained from the patients were preserved in Ringer's solution and in sera of various blood types (A, B, AB, O) under the condition of 2-5°C for 1-7 weeks. At the proper intervals, a part of the rib pieces preserved were cut off and histological investigated.
The number of living cells of the bone was taken up as the indicator of vitality. Each bone preserved in Ringer's solution and sera showed no intensive changes in vital powter till a week, and then gradually decrease of the vitality of cells was found. But 7 weeks after, living cells were still seen in small number. However the bone preserved in Ringer's solution showed a little better vital power than that in sera, but after 7 weeks it became contrary. Among the bones preserved in the sera of various blood types, the bone preserved in the sera of the same blood type showed the best vital power and the others showed a more degenerative feature without marked differences.
Part III. Homogenous bone grafting in oral surgery (Bone grafting by means of the chips of homogenous ribs preserved)
    1) Of 21 cases in which the homogenous bone grafting was performed after apicoectomy or exstirpation of cysts of jaw, there have been 20 successful cases.
    2) The bone grafting in this form accelerated the wound healing after the operations (apicoectomy, cyst operation) about 2-3 months.
    3) The infection of tuberculosis by bone grafts was not found, though the bones were obtained from the patients who underwent thoracoplastic operations.

The followings are the results of the examinations in which radio-active P32 was administered to rats and rabbits by injection or per os.
    1) In the cases of subcutaneous injection of P32 into the dorsal parts of the rats, it was transfered mostly to the lower incisors, and then the upper incisors, mandibular and maxillary bones. And it was transfered few to the upper and lower molars.
    2) There were no differences between the rats in which P32 were administered by injection and per os in equal amount respectively.
    3) In the rats in which P32 was subcutaneously administered to the dorsal parts, it appeared mostly in the roots of the upper and lower teeth, then to the alveolar bone, and a little amount of it in the crowns of the teeth. It was transfered scarecely to the nail, tongue and lip.

An experiment was attempted with the purpose of finding out medicinal agents which would likely to suppress the appearance of mottling of teeth in rats. A number of agents, namely, sodium iodide, calcium chloride, thyroid gland extract, cod liver oil, vitamin A, vitaminemulsion, vitamin B12 and irradiation with ultraviolet ray were tried both parenterally and non-parenterally, simultaneously with the administration of sodium fluoride solution 1 c.c. (5 mg. or 20 mg.) per Kg. body weight for a period of extending to 25 weeks, and observation of the condition of teeth was made in reference to appearance of mottling of teeth.
It was found that the administration of vitamin B12 exerted the most suppressive action followed in the order of irradiation of ultraviolet ray and cod liver oil. The other agents showed no difference in effect with the cases in which fluoride was alone given. Quantitative determination of water, calcification, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium contents in front teeth and the bone of humerus was made after the animals were killed, and their contents showed lower value as compared with control. Among the agents vitamin B12 seemed to demonstrate the best result which was clo-ser to the value of healthy animal

The patients suffering from internal diseases accompanied with pyorrhea were devided into 2 groups, namely, one group of the patients who underwent surgical operations, another with no such treatments, and blood sugar rate was measured respectively. The results obtained are summarized as follows.
Generally speaking, blood sugar rate and grade of pyorrhea were higher in the former group compared with the latter. In the cases of pulmonary tubercul osis, the same fact was observed. But the patients suffering from both pulmonary and intestinal tuberculosis showed low blood sugar rate on an average with pyorrhea of relatively high grade. In the cases of diabetes mellitus, though they were few cases, the patients showed high blood sugar rate with pyorrhea of high grade on an average.
Considering from the results of all cases, it seems to be suggested that high blood sugar rate indicates high grade of pyorrhea and surgical operations participate. in the rise of blood sugar rate.

The chemical change of the pure silver wires, which were inserted for seven days in the oral cavities of nineteen healthy persons, was experimentally examined. And then the rust formed upon the wires was separated by melting with sodium pero-xide and sodium carbonate, and the SO4 base produced from the wrust as measured by Andrews's method.
    Following results were obtained.
    1. The weight of spended silver wires was 1.2 mg. on an average.
    2. The weight of the rust was 0.1 mg.-0.8 mg.
    3. The relationship between the weight of the rust and the discolouration of the wires was not remarkable.
    4. The sulfur in the rust was 0.002 mg.-0.059 mg.
    5. It was recognized that the more the sulfur in the rust, the more the discolouration of the wires.

There is no certain practical report concerning the incidence of dental caries in pregnancy besides the theoretical observation set upon a notion. This observation was done considering that there may be some relation between the incidence of dental caries and the delivery and lactation.
Tooth examinations were done on 600 pregnant women (all 5 mos. gestation) in the Otsu Health Center, Shiga Prefecture: the ages were limited to 27-28 and all the women of the same condition of lactation period after delivery were selected. The data were studied statistically and the following results were obtained: the average number of dental caries were 8 in the women after the first delivery (the second pregnansy of 5 mos.).
Further, observing the women of 2 nd, 3 rd and 4 th delivery of the same condition the incidence of dental caries in each group were 8, 7 and 9, and all showed increases compared with those of non-delivery.
So we suggest the relation of dental caries and the pregnancy (after 5 mos.), delivery and lactation after our examination results.
