Diurnal periodicity as well as seasonal change was observed, in the neighbourhood of Kominato, Tiba Prefecture, in the feeding intensity of
Haliotis gigantea discus R
EEVE. This gastropod feeds mostly at night and its food-consumption culminates during a period from January to April or May but declines toward summer. The insensity reaches a minimum during the breeding season which lasts from October to November and again resumes an ascent thereafter. Hand in hand with this change, the growth of the animal attains a maxi-mum and a minimum in the corresponding months. These results are also supported by an analysis of the data already published by O
KAMUEA and S
END (1920) who, however, maintained a diagonally opposite view ons the feeding and growth of Japanese abalone.
