ジャーナル フリーPersistence of a diurnal rhythm in the migration of the retinal pigments of several crustaceans, in spite of constant conditions of illumination or of darkness is known. The distal pigment and the reflecting pigment in the eyes of three shrimps, Leander paucidens, Paratya compressa, and Spirontocaris alcimede, continue their characteristic movements under constant external conditions. These movements are able to analyse by some experimental methods. The regularly recurring 24-hour cycles in pigment migration in the eye of these shrimps might be due to regular variation in the activity of nervous inhibitory centers causing a variation in the amount of hormone released from the gland of the eye-stalk.抄録全体を表示PDF形式でダウンロード (321K) -

ジャーナル フリーDiurnal periodicity as well as seasonal change was observed, in the neighbourhood of Kominato, Tiba Prefecture, in the feeding intensity of Haliotis gigantea discus REEVE. This gastropod feeds mostly at night and its food-consumption culminates during a period from January to April or May but declines toward summer. The insensity reaches a minimum during the breeding season which lasts from October to November and again resumes an ascent thereafter. Hand in hand with this change, the growth of the animal attains a maxi-mum and a minimum in the corresponding months. These results are also supported by an analysis of the data already published by OKAMUEA and SEND (1920) who, however, maintained a diagonally opposite view ons the feeding and growth of Japanese abalone.抄録全体を表示PDF形式でダウンロード (278K) -

ジャーナル フリーAn apparatus has been constructed which can detect fish-shoals by the fluctuating submarine illuminations when fish-shoals pass over the photometer dipped beneath water. The principle of the apparatus in as follows:
An audible frequency produced by an electric oscillator is led to the first grid of the vacuum-tube, though generally the current of this audible frequency is stopped by means of the negative potential of the third grid. But, when fish-shoals pass over the submarine photo-cell, the photo-current suddenly decreases and the potential of the third grid becomes positive. Therefore, the audible alternating current flows to the sixth grid (the plate) and rings the cone affxed to the case of apparatus. The capacity of the connecting condencer is so chosen as to select only the rapid change of photo-current, in order to distinguish between the slow decrease of submarine illuminations due to clouds and the rapid one due to fish shoals, the latter only being effective to the apparatus.抄録全体を表示PDF形式でダウンロード (1309K) -
