    This paper describes the performance analysis of the Integrated Hybrid Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (I-H OTEC) system and an oceanographic investigation for effective utilization of ocean thermal energy offshore of Tsushima Island which is one suitable site proposed for the I-H OTEC system. We made oceanographic observations in the area north west of Tsushima Island in August, October, and December of 2005; July, August, October, and November of 2006; and August, September, October, and November of 2007 to obtain physical and chemical data (water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, nutrients), as well as topographic data using a research ship of the National Fisheries University, which is necessary for designing the I-H OTEC system. A conventional design for the I-H OTEC system is being conducted with these data. The total heat transfer area of heat exchanger per net power is used as an objective function. Numerical results are reported for a 1,000 kW I-H OTEC system with plate-type heat exchangers and ammonia as a working fluid. The objective function obtained is 10.1m2/kW when the warm sea water inlet temperate is 28.7°C and cold sea water inlet temperate is 4.1°C.

    A concept for novel NF/RO/MED hybrid desalination is described in this paper. A pilot plant for a hybrid desalination method whose desalination capacity was 1 m3/h was constructed. Stable operation of the pilot plant was achieved and Top Brine Temperature (TBT) reached 125°C, which was a world record. The preliminary conceptual design was also carried out. From this conceptual design, energy conservation characteristics were discovered.

    Up-to-date information on methane hydrates was reviewed from the view point of new energy in the ocean. At first, a history of hydrate discovery was briefly introduced. The phase diagram and the crystal unit structure were classified by considering the cavity of water cages and that of the guest molecules. The distribution on the earth, the depth of the sediments containing methane hydrates, and the estimated mass of methane hydrate were theoretically discussed by considering the phase diagram of methane+water. The origin of natural gases was divided into two types, biogenic and thermogenic. Then, the identification and measuring of gas composition and isotope contents were introduced. Finally, the activity of a national project named“The Research Consortium for Methane Hydrate Resources in Japan”and our contribution were also described, and the exploitation programs at the seabed in the offshore of Honshu island, Japan, were considered.

    塩酸オキシテトラサイクリン (OTC) や免疫賦活剤の投与が, ヒラメ腸内細菌の数や組成に及ぼす影響について調べた. OTC投与が腸内細菌の数や組成に及ぼす影響は軽微であったが, それは同耐性菌の出現を誘起した. ラクトフェリン (LF), フコイダン (Fu), γ-オリザノール (γ-OR) の投与は, 腸内のStreptococcus sp.(LF投与試験では, 当該菌の検出はなく, 挙動不明) やEnterobacteriaceaeの比率低下, Vibrio sp. の比率上昇を誘導した. V. anguillarum感染実験では, LF投与はEnterobacteriaceaeの比率低下やVibrio sp. に占めるV. anguillarumの比率低下に加え, 生残時間の延長, 瀕死魚の肝臓や脾臓中の細菌数の減少等を導いた. 上記結果は, 食や環境の安全. 安心に配慮した魚病の治療・予防には, OTCよりも, LF, Fu, γ-OR等の免疫賦活剤の使用が良いことを示唆する.

    苦汁成分が異なる塩で味噌を製造し, 味噌の成分, 微生物測定を行い, さらに味の違いについて官能評価を行った. その結果, 塩の種類により, 味噌のpH, 色アミノ酸およびグルコース量が異なったが, 微生物挙動に差は見られなかった. 官能評価は, 味噌汁の塩味, 香り, 美味しさの強さは, 苦汁成分の多い塩で評価が低かったが, 味噌汁の香り, 色, 味の好みは, いずれも差は見られなかった. よって, 塩の種類により幾つかの成分量が異なるが, 味噌汁の好みにおよぼす影響は僅かであることが示唆された.

    Salt crystallization should be carried out under high suspension conditions in order to maintain global competitiveness. However, excessive micro-crystals are generated under such conditions. In this study, the effects of injection methods of dissolution water on the number of micro-crystals were investigated in order to control CSD (crystal size distribution). As the results show, it was clear that local undersaturation was concerned with the dissolution phenomena of micro-crystals and the injection strategies of dissolution water were proposed.
