The Stepwise Heating Method was tried to apply to measure the thermal conductivity of the MgO-C bricks. The thermal conductivity of the MgO-C bricks was also measured by the stationary state method in order to compare to the Stepwise Heating Method. The themal conductivity of the MgO-C bricks containing 20%-graphite and 7%-graphite measured by the Stepwise Heating Method almost corresponded to that by the stationary state method. The thermal conductivity of both parallel and vertical direction to the oriented plane of flake graphite was measured for the MgO-C brick containing20%-graphite.The thermal conductivity of parallel direction to the oriented plane of flake graphite was about 1.3-1.5 times larger than that of vertical direction in all the temperatures. The Stepwise Heating Method cleared the influence of oriented plane of flake graphite on the thermal conductivity. In the measurement of the thermal conductivity of the MgO-C bricks, therefore, the Stepwise Heating Method was considered to more useful than the hot wire method. As a result, the Stepwise Heating Method enabled to measure the thermal conductivity of the MgO-C bricks up to about 1100K.
