In order to know the effect of the heterogeneity of wood on the multi-phase graphitization of charcoal, the residual products, which were obtained from a commercial pulp and an Araskan Cypress at various stages of solvent extraction, were heat-treated up to 3000°C.
X-ray diffraction profiles of the residual products differed remarkably from each other. However, the variations of (002) diffraction profile of the products with heat treatment temperature was hardly observed and co-relation between the crystallinity of the materials before heating and characteristics of (002) profiles of char was not established.
The present results show that the multi-phase graphitization of charcoal was not caused from explaned by the constitutional heterogeneity of wood.
