We investigated the methodological and instrumental reliability of the Odor Stick Identification Test, developed by Saito et al. (1998, 2003). In Experiment 1, to reduce the ISI (inter-stimulus-interval) between odor material presentations, identification rate in ISI 90 seconds was compared with that in ISI 30 seconds. The result indicated that reducing the ISI had no influence upon odor identification performance by a method of four choices in all odor materials. In Experiment 2, the change in odor quality and perceived intensity were examined during 18 months. No qualitative change and no intensity shift by deterioration of the materials were observed in every 14 odor stick. These results corroborated the methodological reliability of this Odor Stick Identification Test, in terms of the reduction of measurement time as well as the qualitative validity of the test materials in preservation within the period of 18 months.
